I was reading the text for Section 56: In Memoriam (because I'd like to volunteer but want to wait until I submit my recording test first) and noticed the Magic Window indicates this section is by "Orestes A. Brownson." I think the In Memoriam is actually about Brownson. The table of contents shows "In Memoriam: Orestes A. Brownson by The Editor."

You guys are all doing such a steady job with this project. :)
Hi thank you for pointing that out I have now updated the MW. If you would like me to reserve that section for you I can do. As you say please complete your 1 minute test. It is just to check all you technical specs are correct before completing a longer recording that may need editing.
Thank you! I'll wait to reserve that section until I can get everything else squared away. I appreciate it!

After I post my test recording in the proper forum, should I post the link in this thread, as well?

Hi no you don't need to post it in here if you post it in the listeners forum I will go along and check it for you.

Section 56 finally! 20:09

https://librivox.org/uploads/maryannspiegel/americancatholicquarterly1_56_various_128kb.mp3

As a standard PL project, I know it doesn't need to be word-perfect but...I did notice two spots towards the end where I changed or added a word. I don't think it changes the meaning of the text, but let me know if I should re-record those sections. I also tried my best to blend the volume and sound of my voice when I had to insert a re-recorded section. It isn't perfect but I hope the slight differences aren't too distracting.

Thank you for your section. Please don't worry we all have to insert corrections at some point. I am never able to match the sound of my voice even after 11 years of doing this. Your section is queued for PL.

Can I pick up Section 36?

It says 'open' I'm assuming it's not completed?

Welcome to Librivox.

I will reserve section 36 for you but you will need to complete your 1 minute test first and get the ok (see below). Also can you let me know how you would like your name to appear in the catalogue. It can be your forum name, real name, or any other pseudonym of your choice thanks.

We urge you to make a "1 Minute Test" for review before you start actively recording. This is NOT an audition, but a way to check to make sure all your technical settings are correct, your volume loud enough, etc. You will find the information for the 1-Minute Test Recording here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test. The instructions also tell you how to upload your test and then post in the Listeners and Editors Wanted forum so someone can give you feedback on it.

An overview of how Librivox works can be found here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_LibriVox_Works

There are numerous ways to volunteer here. An important one is proof-listening, which consists of checking someone's recording for errors. If you'd like to give that a try, you can find lots of information here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners
If you wish to try your hand at recording, the place to start is the Newbie Guide to Recording: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording, which tells you how to set up your computer to record.

One of our volunteers has created a number of videos that you might find helpful to learn more about the workings of Librivox. You can find a listing of those here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/User:Philchenevert

Also to point out to professional (or aspiring) Voice Over artists, all our recordings are put back into the public domain which means sometimes they are sold on ebay, etc. Have a look at this page which describes our Public Domain policy: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain

We hope you have fun and please, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
