Pretty soon you'll be doing it by sight! The illustration on the 1 minute test page is a pretty good idea of what to aim for visually: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_TestGoldenThread wrote: ↑August 11th, 2020, 11:15 am Thank you, Maria! It's been hard to tell exactly what's the perfect volume in Audacity. I will definitely make use of the tools provided. Much thanks!

PL Notes Chapter 3:
Lovely job! There are a couple of very minor edits needed.
At the very beginning, we do ask that the silence be no more than a second. If you could cut it down a bit, that would be great!
Also, at the end of the intro could you please add: "Chapter 3. The Little Town of Bauer"
Thanks!

The only issue is is that is only 2 seconds of silence at the end instead of 5.
Edit: Also, the volume is a bit low. If you could amplify it a bit, that would be great.

Thank you for the feedback, Maria. I amplified the volume and made sure there were five seconds at the end. Thank you for your patience! This was my first time ever doing this so a little rough:)

Welcome to LibriVox! Section 7 is all yours. Please read the first post of this thread carefully.
Since this is your first recording, we ask that you send in a 1-minute test recording. This is not an audition, it's just to make sure the sound quality and the recording settings are all right - often things can be improved at the outset that are difficult to fix later. Please go to https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test to find out what to record for your 1-minute test, and how to upload the recording. In the LibriVox Uploader, please select 'tests - tests' from the MC drop-down, and then post your test recording in the Listeners Wanted forum, rather than in this thread - you'll get feedback more quickly there.
Thanks, and have fun!

Thank you. I ordered a good microphone for my Audacity set up and it will be delivered tomorrow. When I receive it, I shall upload my 1 minutes test.

It sounds good!
However, there are several technical settings that need to be fixed. Don't worry, that is what the test is for ~ to fix things before you jump into a longer section.
First, your file is in Stereo, and we need it to be in Mono.
We need to the bit rate to be 128kbps and Contant. Yours is 140kbps and variable.
Are you using Audacity? If so here is a video that one of volunteers made, showing how to set the tech specs that we need:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8JkCgKo3fU&t=72s
Also, your volume is a bit on the high side. If you could bring it down a bit, that would be great. There is also a bit of background noise, and the file could use a light noise cleaning.
Here is a video that includes how to do noise cleaning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvhqw7zBmEo&feature=youtu.be
And for good measure, a link to all of Phil's videos: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Instructional_Videos
Please let me know if you need some more help!
