Hi again
Thank you for reading this.
I am sorry to say there are the same odd variations in volume and much echo in places that I have already noted in Ch 4. These were not on your test recording (I went back and listened to that), so clearly it is something you are doing that is introducing this, and these passages really mar your readings.
For example:

~ 0.5 The beginning of the Intro Chapter [number] of Tales from Ariosto, by Joseph Shield Nicholson was so muffled and faint that I had to listen to it several times before I could make out what you were saying.
~ 4.53 to around 5.22 very strange echo and hard to hear
~ 5.44 loud background bang
~ 6.51 bang in background
~8.00 - 8.15 echo
~ 8.45 - 8.55 more echo

At this point, I stopped PL again because this recording really needs you to do your own QA check first, and fix all the obvious errors before uploading.
Did you PL the other chapters you have uploaded (9 and 10)? If not, please will you QA check them yourself and remove errors.
Thank you.

Sorry about that. I'm checking Chapter 5, and I'll post here when I finish fixing it. I'll PL my other recordings and post here when I think they're ok.

My microphone records very quietly for the first few seconds, which I didn't notice at first, but I'll fix those spots. Also, I was amplifying everything together which may have caused some spots to be quieter than usual, but I'm going through bit by bit now, so everything should be clear when I'm finished.

Thank for help, and sorry about not going through the recording myself.

Thanks for this. We all make mistakes when recording, and particularly when still new. It is simply impossible to read for any length of time and have it be error free.
It is expected that each reader will do their own QA check before uploading, ie, listen to their entire reading and edit out the errors, slips, stumbles, extraneous noises, etc. it’s just part of the process. Also, checking that technical specs are met, intro and outdo are the right length and so on. It isn’t the job of the PL to find the mistakes for you, but to be a second pair of ears only, and at times (like now) a gatekeeper.
But there’s plenty of help available to help you get better at this essential skill, so you can identify your own weak spots (whether in setup or recording technique) and fix them. The Wiki is a mine of information (see link at top of page) as are the other Forum users of course. there is a Help! Part of this forum as well.

Once you’ve figured out what is causing the echo and eliminated it, you might explore using the Compressor function in future to even things out. https://youtu.be/N_z5NeK_trw

I am sorry that you think this file is now acceptable. I have to disagree with you and cannot accept it as it is.
While the extraneous clicks and noises have been removed, there are still far too many very strange episodes in it, with hugely varying voice and volume, echo in the odd bits, etc.
Listen for example to these passages:
14.14 - 14.24
14.35 - 15.04
14.37-
16.11 - 16.21

Around here, I stopped listening again because it's wasting my time, which isn't unlimited.

If I had this, I would find what it was, fix it and then probably re-record the whole file. It's quite difficult to fix as many errors as there are in this file. Although it may be possible, it is probably going to be time consuming given the number of problems.
In terms of first finding and rectifying what is causing these errors, I would start by posting in the Help I have an Audacity problem file, viewtopic.php?f=23&t=40238&start=1155 as there are many very experienced readrs and recorders who will offer help. You can point them back to the uploaded file in this thread, and highlight some of the problem passages, eg, those I have listed above.

I would like to second Jane's suggestion. Your file seems to have some volume changes and echo problems that can be addressed by the most tech savvy people here in Librivox - we have plenty of them! :D You can post the file there and point at the times which Jane marked, or you can just get a snippet off the file, so people can help you identify the problem and solve it.

Hi
Nice reading, thank you. What a tale of love and hate and ups and downs!

I only have one 'must do' - you left off the essential 5 full secs of silence at the end. Could you add it please?
