Enoch Arden by Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809 - 1892).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/enoch-arden-by-alfred-lord-tennyson/

In the poem "Enoch Arden," Tennyson's epic narrative of the enduring power of love in the face of insurmountable odds, is found a classic example of the determination of the human spirit to triumph in circumstances that address the true meaning of the power of love itself. Wanting only the very best for his impoverished wife and family, seaman Enoch Arden undertakes precarious work which leaves him marooned and presumed lost at sea. On his return home Enoch finds his family well and prospering but his wife remarried. Faced with a love for his family deeper than the oceans he sailed, Enoch must decide whether to intrude into this idyllic scene of domestic happiness or meet old age and death alone and in obscurity. (Bruce Kachuk)

  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

OK, your MW is up and ready for you. But, first, I have some homework for you to complete since this seems to be your first solo project.

You will need to be able to access the workflow system, which the MW is a part of. Since this is a solo project, you are your own BC, and responsible for putting in the titles for the sections and pasting the link that is generated by the uploader for your sections. Check out this document https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ. It will tell you how to access the MW for the first time, and how to change your password. Let me know if you have access, or if you are having any problems.

I won't move us until I know you are into the MW, hopefully we can pick up a DPL in the meantime!

Thanks so much, Ann. Homework done. I now have access to the workflow system and am ready to upload my first section. This project should go quite smoothly. The book is fairly short and I have begun recording. Since the poem is written without defined textual divisions, I will be choosing appropriate breaks and (I suppose) titling them Section 1, 2, etc. I foresee about 5 to 8 of such sections.

Thanks again for your advice and for MC-ing this, Ann, and I will diligently pursue completing this significant piece of literature from one of our greatest poets.

Bruce.

Good! Section 1, 2 etc sounds good to me since there are no divisions already in the text. Whenever you are ready to upload, go for it!
