Welcome, Alejandra! I apologize for the long wait for your test to be checked.

It sounds good! There are two things to change, however:

1. Your volume is too low. Visually, you should aim for your wave forms to peak near the 0.5 mark, like this:
Image

By numbers, your recording needs to come up about 10 dB.

Move your microphone slider up - try 3 full notches. (If it is at 0.65, move it to 0.95.) If you cannot move it up far enough, you may have to increase your input volume. Here's a link to instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3#Volume

2. Your bit rate is variable; it needs to be 128 constant. This is set when you export to MP3. When you go to export, on the screen where you enter the file name for the MP3, change the Bit Rate mode to Constant, and the quality should be 128 kbps. You should only have to set it once; it'll remember the setting until you change it again.

Please ask if you have any questions! I can try to explain better if you need it.

Please make these changes, then record another test. Name it test_alejandra (that is better than "1_minute_test" because someone else might name their test the same thing!), and reply in this thread when it's uploaded. :)

Hi listeners,
I tried again. I put the microphone closer and changed the export settings, hope it's fine like this.

Thanks for listening and for the help.
Cheers

Hello again! I merged your two threads together, so that all the information and history is in one place. :)

Did you upload the old file by mistake? This one is still 10 dB too low, and is still variable bit rate. :hmm:

Moving the mic closer won't get you loud enough. Is your microphone slider all the way up already?

That's better. :)

Bit rate is good now!

The volume is still a bit too low. Before, it was 10 dB too low. Now it's about 4. Is the microphone slider all the way up? If it is, you'll have to amplify all your recordings.

Select the whole recording and go to Effect/Amplify.
You can't do a full 4 dB because you'll end up clipping. So just amplify by as much as you can - the number in the box is the maximum you can do. If it's more than 4, change it to 4. If it's less than 4, then leave it where it is.

Make sense?
