Thanks, Bruce. Yes, I love that phraseology. BTW, I'm recording the whole book as a solo, and the editor mentions that Longfellow tinkered with his poems, changing words and lines over time. In that book, your lines are used and I agree they do change the meanings slightly. But I copied and pasted the poem from poem hunter, not realizing a difference in those two lines. I think I'll change them back for the remainder of the project.

I see you didn't try to stretch the rhymes, so I know your answer to my question above. Merci! PL OK.
Thanks, Michele. I'll look forward to your solo.

I think the short answer to the rhyming query is that some works are written with the intent of not necessarily being read aloud - thus constituting one variation of the "looks good on paper" theme. I would approach such works with the dictionary as my final arbiter.

Bruce.

Hi Michele -

I've been dwelling on this and had to change my recording to the words now in the 4th and last stanzas -

https://librivox.org/uploads/aradlaw/endymion_longfellow_ps_128kb.mp3
Track length: 1:51 (a bit shorter than my first try).

Sorry to be a bother.

Florence, you are PL OK. Time actually 1:59.
What finally struck me listening to your rendition is that Diana's "love" for Endymion may not her first trip around the star-struck block! Nor her last!

Phil, I did the same thing. :D PL OK
