Okay, Lord Carnarvon has ended his spectactular and highly interesting life, so we can finally move on to something more interesting: The life of Tut Ankh Amen and his queen...

The section is PL OK
Also, I'll be away at the seaside from the 13th to the 17th so any new sections will have to wait until the next weekend.

Thanks Piotr!

Have fun on your vacation! Although... isn't it still a bit cool for seaside bathing? :hmm:
Cheers,
Ava.

Yeah, the forecast says it will be a bit chilly. Still, I'm not planning to sea/sunbathe so it should be OK. I'm mostly planning to do some sightseeing (OK, and staring at the sea  ) so, unless it rains it should be OK.

Hi Piotr, remember me?

The first "proper" chapter is up, and hell there was a huge amount of name dropping... I just hope they don't all make a reappearance later, I would have to listen again to see how I pronounced them.

And it's probably wrong anyway. Wikipedia says:
As a convention, Egyptologists make use of an "Egyptological pronunciation" in English: the consonants are given fixed values, and vowels are inserted according to essentially arbitrary rules. [snip] Experts have assigned generic sounds to these values as a matter of convenience, which is an artificial pronunciation and should not be mistaken for how Egyptian was ever pronounced at any time.
Not sure if this a relief or not. :hmm:

Edit: Section 5 / Chapter II is up too. Not quite so much name dropping anymore, but still... I wonder if it'll get better in the later chapters.
Cheers,
Ava.

And section 6 / chapter III is up too, with more history...

But in the next chapter, finally, we'll start digging!
Cheers,
Ava.

Yeah, I remember reading about the arbitrary aspect of it.

On a similar note, In my current solo I have a crop of Inca names (Atahualpa and such) plus some coming from other Pre-Columbian tribes, so when pre-reading the chapter yesterday I was looking them up to see if there are any special pronunciation rules to be followed.

Anyway, chapter 4 is PL OK. I liked the bit about the letter to the Hittite king :)

Section 5 is PL. Interesting that the idea of scribbling grafitti on monuments is older than I thought

Just because the practice is old doesn't mean it's an endorsement ;-)

Thanks for listening!

Section 7 is OK
Yet aother case when a supposed pile of rubbish is discovered to contain an important find.
Also, I like the scene of Carter's encounter with the tomb robbers. Awkward moment, indeed
