Doctor Izard by Anna Katherine Green (1846 - 1935).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/doctor-izard-by-anna-katharine-green/
The opening scene takes place in a hospital ward where two patients lie, apparently dying, when a man enters and offers a proposition to one of them. The story then shifts to another town where, years earlier, Polly Earle’s mother died of unknown causes and her father disappeared, leaving Polly, a small child, parentless and penniless. Raised by neighbors, Polly is now a beautiful young woman engaged to be married. A stranger arrives and makes an unsettling request of Polly. Doctor Izard, an intensely private person who had attended her mother, becomes involved. Anna Katherine Green, a prolific and popular mystery writer, was considered to be "The American Agatha Chrystie". (Lee Smalley)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/files/57643
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Indeed I have seen what you have wrought! (And thanks for wroughting, even though I'm sure it's not a word.)

And we're off!

If the writing remains this good it will be a pleasure to do. But first gotta finish the other project -- most of which ain't bad either. :)

Ch. 3 is ready, Ann.

I think it's a fair guess that the next chapter will finally introduce the title character to us, since his name is the name of the chapter. Duh!

Chapter 2 is PL OK! Yes, totally different than chapter 1, but I'm sure all will be revealed at some point!

Here are Chs. 5 & 6.

Not a big deal, but I don't seem to receive notifications every time you post. Sometimes, but not always. Have you experienced this too?
