Hi!
I used the latest version of Garage Band on my MacBook Air using the internal microphone.

Thanks!
Lisa

Hello! I'm surprised no one has posted on your test. Sorry for the delay!

It sounds good! Unfortunately, there are some technical settings that aren't correct. And they're a real pain to get right in GarageBand, from what I have heard. First, the easy part:
Your volume is a bit low. It needs to come up about 5 dB.

The harder part is that your file is in stereo, and the bit rate is 160 kbps rather than 128 kbps. It seems to be hard to get both these settings correct at the same time. Try using the instructions here: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=GarageBand#Saving_and_Creating_an_MP3_File_and_ID3_Tags

Try making these adjustments, then post another test. Use the same file name as your previous one, and post in this same thread when it's ready. :)

Volume is too high now. :) But all the sound is in one of the two stereo channels. (It's still in stereo.)

Can you split the difference - try to get about halfway between the two, and get only one channel?

Are you sold on GarageBand? Perhaps you could install Audacity. That's much easier for us to help you set up.

Hi Lisa!

I still get the recording in stereo instead of mono. I haven't used Garage Band, but looking through some Apple Q&A forums, I see it's not possible to export in mono from Garage Band, but one must go through iTunes, and it sounded a complicated process. Would you like to try with Audacity? :) Here's the wiki guide on how to install and configure Audacity: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=Audacity_1-2-3
