2 Kings (YLT) by Robert Young (1822 - 1888). Translated by Robert Young (1822 - 1888)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/bible-ylt-12-2-kings-by-youngs-literal-translation/
In the First Book of Samuel, the people of Israel asked for an earthly king so it could be just like the other nations, a king to fight its battles and lead the people to glory. But, as this Second Book of the Kings makes quite clear, that demand was a mistake. God was their king, and told the people through his prophet, Samuel, about the demands their kings would make upon them, good or evil. As the old saying goes, "Be careful what you wish for." ( Mark Penfold)
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.ccel.org/bible/ylt/2_Kings
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

    Magic Window:

  • The reader will record the following at the beginning and end of each file:
No more than 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning of the recording!
    START of recording (Intro):
    • "Chapters XX-XX of The Second Book of the Kings, from the Young's Literal Translation of The Bible. This is a LibriVox recording. All LibriVox recordings are in the public domain. For more information, or to volunteer, please visit: librivox DOT org"
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by Mark Penfold"
    • Say:
      "Chapter XX."

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:
    • "Chapters XX-XX of the Second Book of the Kings, from the Young's Literal Translation. This LibriVox recording is in the Public Domain."
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by Mark Penfold."
    • Only if applicable, say:
      "Chapter XX."
    END of recording:
    • At the end of the section, say:
      "The end of Chapters XX-XX."
    • If you wish, say:
      "Recording by Mark Penfold."
    • At the end of the book, say (in addition):
"The end of the Second Book of the Kings. Recording by Mark Penfold."

There should be ~5 seconds silence at the end of the recording.
  • Example filename 2kings_1_ylt_128kb.mp3 (all lower-case) where ## is the section number (e.g. 2kings_1_ylt_128kb.mp3)

    Transfer of files (completed recordings)
Please always post in this forum thread when you've sent a file. Also, post the length of the recording (file duration: mm:ss) together with the link.
    • Upload your file with the LibriVox Uploader: https://librivox.org/login/uploader Image
(If you have trouble reading the image above, please message an admin)
    • You'll need to select the MC, which for this project is: TriciaG
    • When your upload is complete, you will receive a link - please post it in this thread.
    • If this doesn't work, or you have questions, please check our How To Send Your Recording wiki page.

Greetings -

Is this THE Mark Penfold who I DPL'ed for in the past?

If it is, indeed, THAT Mark Penfold then I would be willing to make room in my retired life to work with him on this project.

Greetings -

Sound level - good. Technical things - good. Reading - good. Section 1 is PL OK.

You have gotten better with your character voices, my friend. It is sounding good.

My vice-principal in high school was bereft of hair on the top of his head, but we did not call him "Baldy Head". We called him "Chrome Dome", but he was a great guy and took it in all humor because he knew we had a great deal of respect for him.

Section 2 is PL OK.

I wonder if anyone has every added up all the people that are killed in each book of the Bible. It might be interesting.

I would do Section 3 tonight, but a large padded horizontal surface is calling me.

Section is free of concerns and is listed as PL OK.

I wonder if parents in those times shortened the names of some of their children to make it easier to speak to them. For instance, did the parents of Remaliah call him Remmy for short?

Greetings -

Section 4 is in the PL OK ledger.

Finally, a king who did things right. I wonder what led Hezekiah to follow the instructions of Jehovah.

I will finish the last section tonight or tomorrow.
