I don't disagree--but then again, evidently the only address they had for him was his military po address. It is possible the British paymasters would have cashed the check for him--also he is just about to go home on leave for the first time--(and I think he writes about that in upcoming chapters--but its been awhile since I read them.) Also--checks were less frequently bounced in those days.
Whatever the reason--I shudder to think what would have happened if they had not sent him a check--no Bairnsfather cartoons/movies (Sydney Chaplain--Charlie's brother--played "Old Bill" in one), no war memories or social commentary (I wish his book "Old Bill Looks at Europe" was PD--but it was published in 1935...just before Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time" after the Munich conference.) Bairnsfather was not so easily deceived.

Somehow trying to balance your checkbook while getting shelled just seems a bit unfair. Yes to being MC on M-to-M. When you post the project just place my initials (dc) after the title and the other Admins will know that I've agreed to be the MC. Of course I'd also like to be the DPL. Send me a PM or add a note to this thread when you post the book.

Travel safely. I think we should probably take a week off. A good friend of mine has passed and her memorial service is this weekend--I'm down to do her eulogy. I think we're making "good time" through the project--not that that is necessarily a primary Librivox consideration. I'll be back on the board Monday Oct 23.
