Hi Gill,

Here are your notes:

14: Up to about 3:33, there's a noticeable volume of background noise, with a less noticeable noise afterwards.

16: Up to about 3:06, there's a noticeable volume of background noise, with a less noticeable noise afterwards (though it picks up again at about 6:53).

The ending silence is too short. It should be about 5 seconds, and you've got about 3.4 seconds.

17: Up to about 5:32, there's a noticeable volume of background noise, with a less noticeable noise afterwards.

18: Up to about 8:33, there's a noticeable volume of background noise, with a less noticeable noise afterwards.

19: PL OK

20: Up to about 7:02, there's a noticeable volume of background noise, with a less noticeable noise afterwards.

If you're not sure about noise reduction, see here.

Also:
And, queerly enough, as the month of November came to a close, December began.
And one day the sun rose as usual, and, behold, all the calendars agreed that it was the 25th of December
[Chris and Helen] descended upon their stuffed stockings like a couple of crows on two cornstalks
These are three of the weirdest sentences I've ever seen...

Thanks a lot, Jordan.

My Audacity went funny a couple of weeks ago and now records at whisper volume. I now have to run Compressor then mega noise reduction on everything.

Is this set low?

That might be the problem.

It doesn't allow me to change the recording levels now. I've been through possibilities with Phil but I can't solve it. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling there's the same problem. It works okay as long as I run Compressor and major noise reduction. Just extra steps.

Did you try getting rid of all those old Audacity files and data? If those are still on your computer, they can mess with your program, and cause all kinds of weird stuff to happen. I was having a problem with recordings getting mysteriously corrupted, and whole sections of my recordings would not even show up on my recording. I deleted all those old files, and now it's OK. It doesn't take a lot of files to create havoc with Audacity.

Hi Linda,

That was a long chapter...

Only one note, but I'll leave to you if you think it needs to be changed:

18:46 (not required): This is a weird case where I think you shouldn't read what is written, as it seems to have a misprint where 'stem' should be 'steam'.

Hi! Yes, I thought that was a weird word too. I can re-record that little section at 18:46 and send it in again. No problem.
Thank you for your PL work!
