This thread is for readers to suggest poems or coordinate a future Weekly or Fortnightly Poetry project.
To see what has been recorded already, you can search the LibriVox Catalog by author or title, or browse by poetry - but remember that we welcome multiple versions!
Bartleby is a great resource for public-domain poetry. Another source to try is Poets' Corner. Or you can select a single poem from a whole volume found at Project Gutenberg, Archive.org or Googlebooks. If possible please include a link to an online, public domain source for your suggested poem.
Note: Weekly poems should be PD everywhere. Fortnightly just have to be PD in the US (i.e. PD enough for LibriVox to use). So poems with authors who died less than 70 years ago cannot be weekly poems but are used for fortnightly poems.
List of Suggestions
The Lark Ascending by George Meredith - https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1382 - pschempf
'The End of the Play' by William Makepeace Thackeray - http://www.bartleby.com/42/652.html - Newgatenovelist [ https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/2732 ]

Do you have a link to this poem Peter ?lurcherlover wrote:I would have liked to suggest "To His Coy Mistress" by Andrew Marvell (1621-1678). He is I think a Metaphysical poet (English). It's neither long or short.

Stav, you can set this up for the next Fortnightly due to start January 29.miss stav wrote:I read a beautiful poem called Christmas In The Workhouse by George Sims. It is in the public domain. I wanted to start it as a fortnightly poem, as it is muhch too long to be a weekly poem, I think. But I cannot see the weekly and fortnightly poem's thread so cannot plann when to start. Would you please let me know when the current one closes and if you have something in mind and when it would be ok for me to start? Thanks in advance,.
I would strongly advise you not to record it on christmas and I think it is here:

I hope you would like it.

Hi Patsy, this thread is for suggestions for the Weekly and Fortnightly poetry projects. Here we spend a week (or two) recording one poem, by as many readers as want to. (probably a couple of weeks before we get to your suggestion.)PatsyAnn wrote:Thanks aradlaw. Sorry - I'm a bit new to this but would the poem be available to record now? (I've got the right accent for it!)

If you are keen on recording this now, you can submit your reading to the current Short Poetry Collection, linked here. *Be sure to read all the instructions in the opening post.

I see it was done once before several years ago, but I wasn't yet on LV then to participate, so I figure it can't hurt to ask ... Might it be possible to do Emma Lazarus's "The New Colossus" again? In light of the rather distressing news these days, it would really satisfy my feelings to take a whack at recording that poem.
This weekend I got to see the play Silent Sky which included the poem When I heard the Learn'd Astronomer by Walt Whitman. It inspired me to request it for a future weekly reading.

And for the interested this is a link to Lily Savage trumping with a trumpet (North Yorkshire dialect) in front of the Queen (of England).

This poem was recited in full in Breaking Bad - the whole of which I saw again in my January off Librivox (it's a choice). The reciter gives a copy of Walt Whitman's poems as a love gift to his colleague, the genius meth-cooker Walter White (WW/WW. Geddit?) in which he dedicates it to WW - my star, my perfect silence. Rather touching. (It doesn't end well.)mdatcher wrote:This weekend I got to see the play Silent Sky which included the poem When I heard the Learn'd Astronomer by Walt Whitman. And this is something for April Fool's Day. (Perhaps.)
