Cock-House at Fellsgarth by Talbot Baines Reed by Talbot Reed (1852 - 1893).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/cock-house-at-fellsgarth-by-talbot-baines-reed/
A classic English Public School story with all the usual suspects: unruly juniors, wise upper form boys, and an outcast. ( Von)
  1. Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21037
  2. Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

For the second and all subsequent sections, you may optionally use the shortened form of this intro disclaimer:

Jim,

I can set these up for you. If Dave C wants to MC or DPL this one, he can.

Jim,

You should have access to the MW.

I have moved the existing audio files to my folder temporarily and updated their links in the MW. The existing files all have PL notes listed.

Would enjoy being dpl if Linny has decided not to continue working on this project.

Yes, yes, and yes. I am overwhelmed by everyone's willingness to help. I assume I will try to fix whatever was wrong with the first three entries. Yours, Jim

Jim,

Also moving this one to Going Solo.

That is up to you and depending on your answer I may have to actually work at this one. It depends on what you hear when you listen to the files.

1) If things are easily fixable, then we can proceed with an "adopted" project.

2) If things are a mess and it would be better to just record the files yourself, then I need to start this as a separate "new" project and put the "abandoned" one back (letting the files that we not PL OK expire and get deleted.

Much of what Linny found in those first three sections was related to plosives (mic issues), which I am relatively sure I can't fix. I listened to some of Section 1, and though the speaker's voice is very good, the mic issues do interfere. I'll see this evening if I can eliminate those interferences. Yours, Jim

I didn't know how to transfer the file to Audacity to work on it. Jim

Jim,

Once you save the file to your computer. You can either "File" then "Open" to open in new Audacity window or "File" then "Import" to bring it into your current window.

Yeah, I got that part. But I couldn't download it to my computer, something that as a PL I do frequently without any problems. I'll try again this evening. Thanks, Jim

On very rare occasions I have trouble downloading files. The solution for me has been to restart my computer. I have no idea what the issue was or why restarting solved it.

All right, here it is. I restarted the computer, but nothing changed. If I try to download from the links in the posts. it says there are no KB. If I try to work from the MW links, I can only copy and that doesn't transfer to the track in Audacity. 's up?

Jim,

The links in the forum were from before a software change as well as pointing to another MC's folder - that is why they don't work.

I am not sure why you can't download from the MW. There are 2 other options:
1) a - click on 'BC Admin' link below the MW
b - click on the hyperlinks in the Link column

2) Click on these links

Jim,

I ran the files through Checker and all 3 failed there: they are not 128kb for a bit rate, the volume is too high; and the third one is in stereo.
