I had the good fortune to work with "Modern Times Stage Company" in Toronto a number of years ago.

The company pulled inspiration and grounding from Persian mythic and theatrical traditions:

Quoted from the company's web site:
"explorations of Ta'ziyeh Khani (Persian Passion Plays), as well as other Iranian theatrical forms such as Parda'dary (Tableaux Theatre), Naghal?i (Story-telling Theatre) and Persian Puppet Theatre, have inspired the company's consistent simplicity of design, mise-en-sc?ne and acting style."

While I only brushed the surface of Persian history and traditions, I gained a great appreciation for Persian poetry and works of theatre/cinema.

I wish you best of luck!
