I had to look at your section text to get context to your question. If it were me, I'd say the parenthetical words in a somewhat offhand voice, if possible. Or just use a very brief pause (about enough for a breath) to separate it from the main text. Just do what you can.

PL of section 14 very good. There is one minor edit needed. In the first paragraph of the reading in the 9th line from the text p 166, "French and Iroquois" should read "English and Iroquois". Otherwise excellent.
