The Adventures of Joel Pepper by Margaret Sidney (1844 - 1924).

This project is complete and all audio files can be found in the catalog: https://librivox.org/the-adventures-of-joel-pepper-by-margaret-sidney/
The Peppers are a family of three boys, two girls, and Mamsie. They are poor, living in their "Little Brown House", but they always manage to be happy. This book comprises the adventures of Joel, the middle Pepper child and the most mischievous. Among other things, Joel encounters a snake, a thief, and a nail pile; puts on a circus; rides on a stagecoach; and gets into a fight on Strawberry Hill! (Summary by Rachel)
  • To be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, all unrecorded sections and sections awaiting edits will be orphaned on June 7th unless the claimants post in this thread before then to reclaim the section.
    1. How to claim a part, and "how it all works" here To find a section to record, simply look at point 5. below at the sections. All the ones without names beside them are "up for grabs." Click "Post reply" at the top left of the screen and tell us which section you would like to read (include the section number from the left-most column in the reader list, please). Read points 6. to 8. below for what to do before, during and after your recording.
    2. New to recording? Please read our Newbie Guide to Recording!
    3. Is there a deadline? We ask that you submit your recorded sections within 1-2 months of placing your claim. Please note that to be fair to the readers who have completed their sections in a timely way, if you haven't submitted your recording(s) after two months, your sections will automatically be re-opened for other readers to claim, unless you post in this thread to request an extension. Extensions will be granted at the discretion of the Book Coordinator. If you cannot do your section, for whatever reason, just let me know and it'll go back to the pool. There's no shame in this; we're all volunteers and things happen. Please do not sign up for more sections than you can complete within the two month deadline.
    4. Where do I find the text? Source text (please only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7434
    5. Please claim sections (the numbers in the first column below)! If this is your first recording, please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal website/blog.

Prospective Prooflisteners: Please read the Listeners Wanted FAQ before listening! Level of prooflistening requested: standard

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am planning to DPL, but I'll let you know if it gets to be too much :) I know kids' books sometimes like to go really fast...

That would be great, thanks!
On Librivox, everyone who has completed something (or been assigned to a section) has a catalogue page. For an example of what I'm talking about, mine is HERE. Please let me know under which name or pseudonym you'd like to appear in the LibriVox catalogue. We can also link to a personal web site / blog. I need this information so I can officially sign you up :)
Thanks!

Hi! I'm a newbie so please be patient with me. Can I preview a chapter before I commit to recording? If so, how do I do that?

Thanks,
Renee

Hi and welcome to Librivox!
The text of the book is here - http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/7434.
Please do complete your 1-minute test before actually recording anything. Instructions are here - http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test

Just ask if you have any more questions! :D

Could I please claim chapter 9?

I didn't realize that there were other Pepper family stories. Now I'll have to read the whole book!

Thank you!
She wrote six originally (we have four already in the catalogue, I think), and then she wrote another six later that take place at the same time. I think the wikipedia link explains it all.
