The LibriVox Community Podcast is both informative and fun.

Keeping in mind download time, time you have to listen and any other number of considerations, what is your personal sense of a time limit for the LV CVommunity Podcast?

Also, if you'd like, please leave comments on what you'd like future podcasts to contain, either on a regular basis or special topics.

Thanks for listening to and supporting the LibriVox Community Podcasts!

Thought-If you have so much material, would 3 podcasts a week be doable? Or a Bonus podcast every so often when you have a lot of stuff? Never doing one, I have no idea of the time involved, so just tell me I am really out of my ever-lovin mind-OK?

One a week appears to be reasonable. More, for us anyway, would not be practical. People don't have the time and LV doesn't need anything more often than that.

As for the time it takes to make a podcast, that would depend on the individual coordinator/compiler/announcer/producer/creator/director/solicitor for a particular podcast.

It sorta revolves around gathering info and appropriate recordings and from there it depends on what a coordinator for a particular podcast wanted to put into it, how much editing was necessary and how much multitracking and layering she wanted to do. The podcast I hope to have in the can tonight required about 35 tracks to create in the final mix. I also elected to create all of my own music, so I had to mix those tracks as well and export them to single stereo tracks and then import them into the mix.

Did you vote?

Part of the reason for the poll is because this end of year podcast could easily be very long, but I thought I might get a headsup with a lst minute pole to see what folks fewlt comfortable with --what made personal sense to them.

Alan,

As a norm, probably 20-30 minutes would be fine. But there's no reason it shouldn't be longer - even much longer - every now and then.

This is becoming such a fruitful and loved part of the community that it would be silly to impose a strict limit.

(So my vote is cast for 'length as appropriate')

Longer pcasts once a week-great idea! I really enjoy them and would like to help sometime down the road.

I vote the same as David.
It all depends upon the content.
If you listen through and and some bits seem to drag on a bit then you get the scissors out and chop it.
If you're enjoying listening to it then you let it go on.
I felt that way with your mobile recording unit review.
It was entertaining and interesting and so I let it run through with only minor interruptions.
If it's fun I will listen for hours - it's a podcast after all so you can stop and start it up again whenever you wish.
The regular podcast has to be whatever the podcaster has time for as well as what's entertaining.
Sometimes if there isn't much in the way of material I'm happy for it to be just a few minutes long. I never try to pad it out.
That way boredom lies for the podcaster as well as the listener.

My sediments 'zactly. I wasn't sure because I was super fortunate to get a lot of stuff from a lotta people. Fortunately, I'm also signed up for #17 and so can cut #16 off where it is now: 36 mins.

As for long-windedness, I never can judge that --as the paper trail of my Forum posts prove...

Thanks also David for backing me up on this. (Trusting one's self sometimes requires others.) Just have get home from work later tonight to get it off! (Drat work! What does it think it is, getting in my way?)

For what it's worth, I'm also in the "as long as needed" camp =)

A 2 hour poscast would be okay, as long as it was thoroughly entertaining?

Every podcast I have made has been longer than I intended. I think in fact, every podcast I made was the longest LV podcast up to that time. Thank you for breaking my record :D .

I am also of the opinion that the podcast should be as long as needed.

Also I have found Jim and the other podcasters quite flexible in accomodating extra content which arrived too late, or did not otherwise fit the podcast.

I'm looking forward to 16.

Thanks all. I have re-thought everything based on the input given today. In order for 016 to be entertaining, I have edited it down to 4 minutes and twelve seconds. It promises to be real good.

<grin>

As long as needed.. though I'd have trouble listening to more than about an hour before the next one came out.

The Anniversary Podcast was fairly long too, and since these are special-themed ones, I think it'd be more than fine to have them be a little long. :)
