A major emergency affecting a large number of people may occur anytime and anywhere. It may be a peacetime disaster such as a flood, tornado, fire, hurricane, blizzard or earthquake. It could be an enemy nuclear attack on the United States. In any type of general disaster, lives can be saved if people are prepared for the emergency, and know what actions to take when it occurs.
This handbook, "In Time of Emergency," contains basic general information on both nuclear attack and major natural disasters. This general guidance supplements the specific instructions issued by local governments. Since special conditions may exist in some communities, the local instructions may be slightly different from this general guidance. In those cases, the local instructions should be followed. (Summary from Introduction)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

My internet died today, so I had to go by memory on the section divisions, author name, etc. I do see I am numbering them wrong. Argh!
I also had to go totally from memory at the look of the fallout shelter sign in section 1. I had the text, but not the graphics. I will have to redo it a bit, I think. But feel free to PL these anyway.
Tricia, when I try to download the files, they are only 109 bytes in size and LV asks me for the uploader (!) password. Do you think the snafu is on my end?
Section 2 has an error at 2:45. The text reads "sand or salt" but you read "sand or silt." It does technically change the meaning of the words, but the sense of the sentence is intact (ie. the fall-out will be yay-big.) I leave it to your discretion if you want to change it. Otherwise PL OK.
What a cheerful piece, wot?
ETA: Just tried to update the MW and was denied access.
Gah! I forgot you're new enough that you have one of the temporary passwords to the MW. You should have access now.
Yeah, cheerful piece, for sure!
I remember the Fallout Shelter signs from when I was a child, but I wonder if they have taken them down nowadays; I don't remember seeing them as an adult.
My university still has a few buildings marked as fall-out shelters, but I think it's apathy about removing them more than someone is interested in actively maintaining public shelters.
