SOME COOL TUTORIAL VIDEOS TO GET YOU STARTED
Omg. I had no idea I could use smilies from other forums. That actually makes sense. I will go hunt them out! Thank you! (for one, I have to find a hug smilie (I'll test it now, actually! ) because I like to give hugs, and they are useful for thanking folks ) Well... It looks different, but it works!
I will let you know if I figure out if there might be a useful video to help me and others!

The video link for "Installing Audacity" is incorrect in the original sticky post. Here is the correct link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBZ9fFopLRg
The video link for "I'm New. What Should I Read First?" is incorrect in the original sticky post. Here is the correct link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ExS71WYtUIc&list=PLD623ECF357234509&index=32&t=169s
I know these links are also listed on the Instructional Videos Wiki page, but I thought it would be nice to have them right at the top.

Thank you Paul, I will fix these links tonight. I never check these and it is great to have someone checking the links. Let me know if others are broken.paullawleyjones wrote: ↑November 20th, 2021, 4:51 pm The video link for "Installing Audacity" is incorrect in the original sticky post. Here is the correct link:

Thank you Paul. I'm glad someone is checking these links. Over the years, they have spread to places I've forgotten about and when updating them I don't remember to change them.

With regards to the LibriVideo site, I would recommend killing it and using LibriWiki (I just made this up!) for hosting all (semi-)static resources. This way, there is only one place where links need to be updated.
In the About LibriVox -> Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here forum, I recommend having a Getting Started locked Announcement with links to all the essential resources to get a narrator up and running, similar to a software application's "Quick Start" guide. The "You can check your own Technical Specifications!" and "1-Minute Test Uploading Instructions" Announcements cover some of this already, but I feel a single Announcement covering the whole process might be better.

Note that there's a "getting started" email that all new members get when they're activated. It contains all these kinds of links. The text of the email is here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=36743 (stickied in this, the "New here? Introduce yourself" forum). In the About LibriVox -> Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here forum, I recommend having a Getting Started locked Announcement with links to all the essential resources to get a narrator up and running, similar to a software application's "Quick Start" guide. Yes, that email includes a lot of information, but I feel it's in the wrong order. Here's my take on how that email should look.TriciaG wrote: ↑February 19th, 2022, 6:59 amNote that there's a "getting started" email that all new members get when they're activated. Hi [name],
Welcome to LibriVox!
Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself! I've activated your forum account; you should be able to log in now.
This "welcome" email is filled with helpful links! There's a lot to read, but it's important so that you can get up and running as quickly and smoothly as possible. You can always get help on the forum if anything here is confusing.
You might also like to introduce yourself to the community in the "New Here? Introduce Yourself!" forum: http://forum.librivox.org/viewforum.php?f=17
If you speak a foreign language, have a look at: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Quickstart_for_non-English_Users
Recording Quick Start Guide
If you wish to try your hand at recording, the place to start is the "Newbie Guide to Recording": http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Newbie_Guide_to_Recording, which tells you how to set up your computer to record.
Before you start recording, you must submit a "1 Minute Test" for review. This is NOT an audition, but a way to make sure your technical settings are correct, your volume loud enough, etc. You will find the information for the 1-Minute Test Recording here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/1-Minute_Test.
The instructions also tell you how to upload your test and then post it in the "Post Your 1-Minute Test Recording Here" so someone can give you feedback on it: viewforum.php?f=21
Once your "1 Minute Test" has been approved, you can head over to the "Volunteer for Reading & Other LibriVox Things" forum, and start claiming sections to record: viewforum.php?f=32
Other Ways To Help
There are numerous ways to volunteer here. An important one is proof-listening (PL,) which consists of checking recordings for errors. If you'd like to give that a try, you can find lots of information here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Guide_for_Proof-listeners
Other ways to help are by being a Book Coordinator (BC): https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=How_To_Become_A_Book_Coordinator, and a Metadata Coordinator (MC): https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=How_LibriVox_Works#Meta_Coordinator
Other Helpful Resources
One of our volunteers has created a number of videos that you might find helpful to learn more about the workings of Librivox. You can find a listing of those here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/User:Philchenevert
An overview of how Librivox works can be found here: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_LibriVox_Works
Also to point out to professional (or aspiring) Voice Over artists, all our recordings are put back into the public domain which means sometimes they are sold on ebay, etc. Have a look at this page which describes our Public Domain policy: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Copyright_and_Public_Domain
If you have questions, please post in the "Need Help? Got Advice?" forum: viewforum.php?f=23
We hope you have fun!

Ah, but we put proof-listening first because we're always short of DPLs. That was intentional.
And we will not promote being a BC to newbies. They need to learn how we do things first and how to work appropriately with other newbies, before jumping into BC'ing. And MC'ing is invite-only, so there's no sense in promoting it.

Okie dokie.
Makes perfect sense, and I did not know that about MCing.
So, version 2...

Hi everyone! My name is Rebecca, and I see a few others that joined because of GISH (Greatest International Scavenger Hunt), and that is how I also found out about LibriVox, but I am so excited to try my hand at recording and hope to help some people out through this platform. Thank you for providing this!
