if only if only I had time to study PG and LV for my dissertation. so much to learn!

Anne's nailed that one, their early books are all Frankentexts. In the beginning of PG, there was no interest in using a single edition of a work -- it didn't seem to matter, I guess, as long as it was readable in general. So those texts are patched together out of various versions, and could relate to a particular publication date, or a mix of editions, or even never quite have been published in that form (thinking of books with mistakes silently corrected, for example.)
Later, especially with DP coming along, there was more interest in creating an archive for academic use and study, not just for casual readers, and so the edition information became much more relevant, and is especially common to be included in DP projects.
I definitely like to record from known editions where I can, though I'd not go so far as to read from the scanned pages (which is the ultimate way to know which edition you're reading from) unless I had no choice.

I'd like to apologize for never getting that out... there were some things I was missing and couldn't complete it. I still have some of the submitted material for that podcast, if someone wants to do one at the end of this year.plaidsicle wrote:I think this new podcast episode will be #145, right? the new year's podcast slated for that number never came out, unless I completely missed it.

it is sad! we may not ever return to the good old weekly podcast days...
I am still working on at least one more podcast episode, though...
my November/December were much crazier than I thought they would be. hopefully I can finish up the thing in the next few weeks.

I think 'PodFad' is unfair ... it did run solidly from 2006-2010, and most fads don't boast 146 episodes.
146?! Really?! Yes! Here's today's short & sweet show: https://librivox.org/2018/01/01/librivo ... -new-year/

Love it! Brought to us by the letters N and Y, eh?
Short and sweet - goes to show that a LV podcast doesn't have to be long and elaborate.

I got a chance to listen today and I loved it! thank you to everyone in it, and to Cori especially.
(I am still poking at the edits on the LV-then-and-now podcast idea I was working on ... it'll be ready sometime... I promise!)

I meant no disrespect whatsoever. Podfad is a common phrase in 2017-2018 and has even been added into the urban dictionary. It also has no time limit or amount of episodes associated with its meaning.Cori wrote: ↑January 1st, 2018, 11:34 am I think 'PodFad' is unfair ... it did run solidly from 2006-2010, and most fads don't boast 146 episodes.

I read a post in this thread dated back in June of last year, that lead me to my conclusions. Again, I meant no disrespect. When a podcast begins putting out episodes more and more sporadically and at greater intervals. Typically begins with only one episode missed, but if a podcast isn't careful, it can compound, sometimes as severe as one podcast every other month. Podfade often leads to podcast death. Many podcasts deny their podfade until it is too late.

as relatively infrequent as it may be, the LV community podcast lives on..
annnouncing at last: episode 147! https://archive.org/download/librivox_community_2013/librivox_community_podcast_147.mp3
I do not have all the magic powers of getting it from the little LV uploader to its proper place on archive.org-- can any MCs help me out with that part?
and here are the show notes:
hosted by Amelia Chesley
0:00 welcome, introduction

this little podcast episode was so interesting-- I learned a lot from everyone's memories and from digging around in old project threads too. I still have lots of questions, so I'm sure I'll do more digging, and maybe more podcasts also.

I am so glad you put this up!! It is very well done and is extremely encouraging from our last conversation. I am going to scrap your recording, this is a good thing, and add it for my mid rolls. Ya sound fantastic!! I am listening to it now. Again, very well done!!

I haven't done this in forever, and I ran into multiple difficulties and snags. (Next time, please use underscores instead of dashes in the podcast file name. That was the straw that broke my back! )
Here's the podcast!

Since I want to do the same thing, your post is confusing, or it is my little pee brain not figuring it out. The file was listed with underscores. So where is the mistake? I had no problem downloading this file.TriciaG wrote: ↑January 18th, 2018, 11:58 am I haven't done this in forever, and I ran into multiple difficulties and snags. The mp3 file is now listed with underscores because I changed it after a bunch of fussing around. Originally it was named with dashes:
librivox-community-blahblahblah - caused me problems
librivox_community_blahblahblah - would cause fewer problems for people like me who don't notice the dashes before uploading the file to Archive.
EDIT: OK, I had a dash on that second example, the second spot. It's now an underscore. I'm going back to bed.
