Americans and Others by Agnes Repplier (1855-1950).

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page here:

http://librivox.org/americans-and-others-by-agnes-repplier/

A collection of sometimes biting, always clever commentaries on some of life's foibles -- as apt today as when Ms. Repplier wrote them in 1912. Though less know to modern readers, Repplier was in her prime ranked among the likes of Willa Cather. Note: Section 13 contains the word niggards. I put it in print here so that it will not be mistaken for a racial epithet when heard. (written by Mary Schneider) This project has a DPL, skilmer.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

Hi Mary,

I'll MC this project for you. I see you have taken the summary from Quotidiana.org so I'm afraid we won't be able to use it for the catalog. (Great site for public domain essays though!) Perhaps you could write your own summary once you've read the book?

Be back shortly to set up the MW for you. :)

Jo -- Thanks so much for signing on. Interesting to note that you are a fellow Pennsylvanian with Ms. Repplier.
I wondered about "stealing" from Quotidiana and am glad to have your expertise on that. I assume you will delete what is there and, yes, I will put a new description in once I have a better feel for the work. I'm hoping to get the first section up tomorrow.

Oooh, what a great choice, Mary! I recorded a different Repplier essay a while ago which was great fun; hadn't thought to look up her other works. I'm looking forward to hearing this when you're done -- happy recording!
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!
