Yes, it does end well, but I would have liked the bad guy to get a bigger thrashing. The ending comments of scene two pretty much say it all. However, I will also say although it is a happy ending, it is not what you might expect. WC does a nice job of catching you totally off guard. Good story, if a tad painful in the telling. It is not WC's normal method I think.

I agree there. I'd liked father Benwell to have been really crushed. But as he so often, in his writings to his superiors, tells how clever and certain of himself he is, I still think he might have felt rather bitter within himself at the end. All his scheming coming to nothing.

I have to tell you, when you read the lines "I grabbed him by the throat" I was thinking "YES, finally, get him get him get him!" Talk about an absolutely hate-able antagonist.

Yes,
but if he had throttled him, father B would have won, in a way. Now he had to live with his failure, and, I think, knowing he had in fact been instrumental in bringing about the happy, or for him unhappy, ending, by being a bit too clever.

Two of W C's Novels - as far as I know - have been made into TV-series: The Moonstone and The woman in White. I wonder what could be done with the Black Robe?

I still would have like to see Benwell get a good thrashing, maybe at the hands of a random robber or something.

Woman in White and Moonstone have also been made into video games.

Black Robe - hm, how about an RPG game?

We should be finished fairly soon now, and then you can begin listening to all of it.

Really? Video games, for which platforms? I'm only into PC's at the moment. Can one get them for that?

They are PC games, I am a nerd, and my laptop is psychologically attached to me, har dee har. :-) Big Fish sells them. I thought Woman in White was okay, Moonstone was also okay. I'd write the Black Robe for pc using Java and .Net probably, those are the tools I am familiar with, but I am open to suggestion...
