Inscription for an Old Bed by William Morris

All files can be found on our catalogue page here: http://librivox.org/inscription-for-an-old-bed-by-william-morris/

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible! Thank you to Cori for suggesting this week’s poem.

This week's poem can be found here.

Please be sure that your recording software is set to the following technical specifications:
Channels: 1 (Mono)
Bit Rate: 128 kbps
Sample Rate: 44100 kHz

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
(Please leave no more than 0.5-1 second of silence at the beginning of your recording!)
Inscription for an Old Bed by William Morris, read for LibriVox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, your location, and/or your personal url.]

Then read the poem:

THE wind's on the wold
And the night is a-cold,
And Thames runs chill
'Twixt mead and hill.
But kind and dear
Is the old house here
And my heart is warm
Midst winter's harm.
Rest then and rest,
And think of the best
'Twixt summer and spring,
When all birds sing
In the town of the tree,
And ye lie in me
And scarce dare move,
Lest the earth and its love
Should fade away
Ere the full of the day.
I am old and have seen
Many things that have been;
Both grief and peace
And wane and increase.
No tale I tell
Of ill or well,
But this I say:
Night treadeth on day,
And for worst or best
Right good is rest.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.

Please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end of your recording.

Save your recording as an mp3 file using the following filename and ID3 tag format:

Carolyn19: Welcome! It's nice to have you joining us. You're off to a very good start. All technical details correct and your reading is perfectly fine. You have a pleasant voice. I look forward to hearing more from you.

Any comments on or criticisms of my performance greatly appreciated.

If some one could give this a quick PL for me, that would be awesome.

Claire: Good reading, thank you.

LenXZ1: Great reading, thank you.

bvanvleet: OK reading, thank you. Your end silence was a little too long, it only needs to be 5 seconds. And your beginning silence was much too long. Please leave less than 1 second in future (otherwise our listeners think their mp3 player has broken when changing tracks.) I’ve fixed these for you.

PL-OK!

It's a great reading, I like the warmth at the beginning, and then mellowing into the second part of the poem. The only possible quibble I might have (and it's very minor!) is that there's a relatively long pause before the last couplet, whereas there's only a comma puncutation-wise to hint. But that's down to taste and not anything you should change - it does give a nice emphasis!
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

Thanks Cori!

Also dii, for some reason I get 'server error' when I try to download Sharon's file, any idea why that is? Other stuff downloads fine.

I notice that her upload URL says just "oldbed" rather than "inscriptionforanoldbed." I tried to put the rest of the title in, but it still wouldn't open, so I would guess that she might have to upload it again with the correct file name.

I don't know too much about the technical aspects, but I'm just trying to be helpful. :)

The filename doesn't matter, as long as the URL posted is the one the uploader gives you. I suspect there was an error when uploading and I've PMed the reader to try again.
