Hello TriciaG,
I am very new to Librivox, and would like to volunteer to read one (or more) chapters of Heroines of History. I have had a lot of trouble submitting a test recording, but think I've finally mastered it.
I would like to be listed as Christine H. in the Librivox catalog.
Hope I'm doing this right!

TriciaG,

Hi! My name is Rachel Kirkland (username: xenophile), and I'm an enthusiastic Librivox newbie.

I would like to read Chapters 32-35 (Catherine the Great, all parts). Please list me as R. Kirkland in the catalog.

Thanks a bunch!

welcome, to both of you!

Christine - I've put you down for section 5, part 1 of Isabella of Castile. If you think you'd do better with a French lady over a Spanish one, I can change it to Josephine or Madame Roland.

To both of you - If you haven't already, you can post a test recording in Listeners Wanted. Or you could read a minute or so of your section and post the sample here, and I'll check it out for you. (This isn't an audition, but so that we can make sure your technical aspects are all correct. It's easier to correct them before recording a section than after.) ;) CLICK HERE for instructions on a one-minute test, or like I said, use this text. :)

Christine - Did you submit a test recording? Do you have the link to the upload, or at least the folder you uploaded it to and the name of the file?

I'm afraid it's still a bit hum-my even though I played with it...let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Rachel - it's also too quiet. Are you using Audacity? You should aim for your wave forms to peak mostly between the 0.5 and 1.0 marks.

Make sure the microphone slider in the Audacity window is all the way up. Also, have you increased your input volume in Windows/OS yet? Here's a link to instructions: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Audacity_1-2-3#Volume

You have some really strong S sounds, which make amplifying difficult. I don't know how to get rid of them, unless it's a matter of microphone placement.

Perhaps play around with the mic placement and input levels first, then we'll take a listen at any background noise. (I could barely hear your voice, so I didn't listen hard for background noise.)

TriciaG,
Oops, I meant to volunteer for section 5 in my first email--so, yes, I'd be glad to read Isabella. I'm going to submit a test reading of it to you later today when my IT dept.(husband) is available. Thanks for your patience now and in future; I am seriously technologically impaired.

Hi, I'm sending a test (hopefully) for you to evaluate me as a volunteer reader.

If this didn't come out right, which wouldn't surprise me, please let me know and I call my IT department in again.
Oh, and I will do all the Isabella sections if they're still available.

Sounds great, Christine!

The only concern is that you have one peak that prevents amplification. You could use the Leveler feature set at Moderate or so - this increases the volume of the quieter parts to make everything... well, more level.

Go ahead with the rest of the recording. :)

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I had the leveler set at moderate for my recording. Is there anything else I should or can do to improve it?
Thanks, Christine (Bizmom)
