Madame Butterfly by John Luther Long (1861-1927) .

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: http://librivox.org/madame-butterfly-by-john-luther-long/
Madame Butterfly is the story of the young Japanese girl Cho-Cho San, who marries a flighty American naval officer, and is thenceforth outcast from her relatives. Anxiously she awaits the return of her beloved husband, but when he finally anchors in the harbour, Cho-Cho San does not get the happy ending she was hoping for.
This short story by John Luther Long has inspired Giacomo Puccini to write the opera of the same name. (Introduction by Availle)
  • Target completion date: 30. June 2010
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.archive.org/details/madamebutterflyp00longiala
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): Standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project will be opened up to a group project as soon as a Book Coordinator can be found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to have it re-instated).

Thanks to both of you! :D

It's a quite short one, so I hope to have it done soon...
Cheers, Ava.

I have a question about the ID3 title tags: As the story is quite short (15.000 words or so), I have grouped the chapters together more or less by 'content'. So, the five sections could be titled
"The Wedding"
"Happy Baby"
"A Proposal"
"Visiting the Consul"
"The Return"

These, however, are not any of the titles of the individual Chapters, so I was wondering if this is within LibriVox guidelines.

Any advice, please?
Cheers, Ava.

Hi Ava,

One of the things the ID3 tags are for is to help mp3 players sort the files correctly. To do this, there needs to be something in the ID3 tag that will allow for this, either numbers 1, 2, etc. or titles with numbers, chapter 1, chapter 2, etc. I would just use what you have in the MW for section titles: 1 - Chapters 1-3, etc.

Sorry, I was not clear...

I'm suggesting to put the title as "1 Chapters 1 - 3: The Wedding" etc. Is this allowed?
Cheers, Ava.

I guess I would have to say not since those titles are not part of the book; policy is to not add or change anything. Sorry. :?

Exactly what I thought, but no harm in asking...

Thanks for clarifying!

I hope I didn't let you wait for too long - the last two chapters are up! :D

Suggestion: Keep your hankies nearby...

Although it is only about 2 hours worth of audio, it was extremely difficult to record! I did not make up the accent of Cho-Cho San on my own, the book is written like that, and I am not sure I did her (or the author) justice. :?

Actually I think you did her full justice. I enjoyed listening so much and can't wait to hear how the story ends. :D
