I don't "get" the fascination with "Narrative of my Captivity". I mean, it's an interesting book, but it's been in the top set of downloads so often! It's not like I'm a superior reader, or that the book is well known. :hmm: It's a puzzle.

It's probably greatly affected by the youtube algorithm. Probably shows up as recommended a lot, gets clicked on, and a continual spiral from there. At least that is my very non technical explanation for it myself.

Tricia, I wonder if professors somewhere have assigned it and suggested this as a free resource. (If I ever get my solo done, I know I'll be letting my colleagues in Nevada know about it as a resource.)

I've read some comments. They say the story is great and so is the reader :D

I always assume it's on some syllabus - but there is also a certain fascination about "living with wild savages" stories especially about women even if only for the things they don't talk about :D

I made a comparison with a normal but above average performing video in regards of traffic source:
Image

You can see that the first one has a very high percentage of its traffic generated by 'Browse features' instead of 'YouTube Search' which is normally the highest source of traffic. Browse features is explained as "Traffic from the homepage/home screen, the subscription feed, and other browsing features."

So probably YouTube has promoted this video to subscribers in the feed and also to non subscribers on the home screen a lot more than a typical video.

Hi Bengt!
I see the same maybe 10 recordings on top every month.
Here are my suggestions.
Youtube report could be more interesting if it could show
- English top 10 (expculding youtube promoted records)
- non-English top 10
- the best new record (1-2 month old),
- best non-English record (1-2 month old).

If it needs too sophisticated efforts please disregard this message.
Thank you for you work!

I might be wrong - but I don't think he would have much control over the figures he gets. Bengt just shares the stats YouTube provides for his personal chapter which he set up and he runs.

The only figure you could get for individual projects is from the Archive page which is linked from LV's catalogue page.
As a random example https://archive.org/details/ocherkiproshlagorazskazy_1806_librivox has 28,213 views which means the page has been accessed that number of times but there is no way of telling how many of those accesses were people listening to it or how those people listened.
