Hello Ava,
I just discovered this thread and I would like to help, so here are my suggestions:
Jack London, The Call of the Wild
Chapter 5, The Toil of Trace and Trail, is about the hard life of sled dogs
http://ia802702.us.archive.org/7/items/call_of_the_wild/call_of_the_wild_5-6_london.mp3
Charles Dickens, Bleak House
Ch. 57, Esther's Narrative is the story of a search for a missing mother in the middle of a winter night and one of the highlights in this book
http://ia801407.us.archive.org/12/items/bleak_house_cl_librivox/bleak_house_57_dickens.mp3
Leo Tolstoy, War and Peace (Maude Translation), book 10, is about Napoleon's winter campaign in 1812
https://librivox.org/war-and-peace-book-10-by-leo-tolstoy/
Macauly's History of England, ch. 18, deals with the massacre of Glencoe of 13th February 1692, which took place in the middle of a scottish highland winter.
Thirty-eight men from Clan MacDonald of Glencoe were killed by government forces billeted with them on the grounds they had not been prompt in pledging allegiance to the new monarchs, William III and Mary II. Another forty women and children later died of exposure after their homes were burned. (wikipedia)

Theodor Fontane, Effi Briest, ch. 19
Effi's and Major Crampas' drive in a sledge on a winter evening, that is when their dangerous liaison starts:

Hans-Christian Andersen, Die Schneekönigin

Sir Ernest Shackleton, South!

Roald Amundsen, The South Pole; an account of the Norwegian Antarctic expedition in the Fram, 1910-12
