Okay, the Discovery Channel got it hooked in my head, so here we go.
I Love LibriVox
To the tune of "I Love the Mountains"

I love recording.
I love the microphone.
I love to PL
on my drive back home.
I love the forums
when my evenings slow!
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

I love the dramas.
I like the poety.
I love to stay up late
Till it's ten past three!
I love recording
when the world is slow!
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

I like recruiting.
We're growing like the borg.
I like to show off
on Archive.org!
I love the podcast
when the week is slow!
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

I love the accents!
I love the languages
recording all the books
through the ages.
And twenty-nineteen
when PD will grow!
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!

Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah,
Boom dee a dah, Boom dee a dah!
I'm not certain about the origins of "I Love the Mountains", but I'm about 70% sure it's in the PD (perhaps someone could check it out?), though parody is protected by US copyright law.

Here is a link to the Discovery Channel's parody of the song to help you get a sense of the tune: Discovery Channel: I Love the World.

Here's what I'm thinking: a different soloist for each of the verses, and then we get as many people as we can to record the "boom dee a dah"s, and mix them together for a virtual choir. Alternately, we could have a different soloist for each line of the verses, like they do in the Discovery Channel commercial.

Thoughts?

I can't sing, but I'd be willing to be a soloist to kick things off.

What we need, though, is some music to sing to. That is something that I can't find in the PD.

PS, feel free to add your own verses to the mix! The more the merrier! 8)

I think we should do a verse each like the Discovery song! That would show how Divese we are!

Okay, so I've been looking for sheet music so that anyone who can play an instrument can play the music....but so far I've no luck.....BUT while looking I found a youtube vid and ther boy knows how to play it and he is going to do a tut on the notes. So when he gets it up I'll post them.

I know how to play the piano, Sean plays guitar.....who else knows how to play an instrument and what is it?

I have done a (very simple, as yet) arrangement in Mozart 9.

No luck, either, in finding any definitive copyright status - it is clearly a traditional song, and we could put an arrangement in the public domain, surely? I haven't yet found a way of saving my arrangement as a PDF, but bear with me...

The chords are:

[C]I love re[Am]cording
[Dm] I love the [G7]microphone
[C]I love to [Am]PL
[Dm]On the [G7]drive back home
[C]I love the [Am]forums
[Dm]when my [G7]evening's slow

[C]Boom de ya da
[Am]Boom de ya da
[Dm]Boom de ya da [G7]boom de ya da

And just so you can all sing along (and it will never get out of your head), here's a starter.

I have been playing around with this and have made an accompaniment - starts with a 4 bar intro, then four verses and ends with lots of boom-de-ah-das. I don't have any very sophisticated software, so it isn't that good, but with all the voices, it could sound quite entertaining. :)

My thinking is that if lots of people recorded whatever they wanted to - verses and/or boom-de-ah-das, we could then mix lots of different voices (as the BBC did with Lou Reed's Perfect Day - you can hear it on Youtube) with the boom-de-ah-das fading out at the end.

I have overwritten my sung original file with this instrumental accompaniment at http://upload.librivox.org/share/uploads/xx/ilovelibrivox.mp3

Wow Ruthie! Sounds awesome.

Methinks you are better at the music stuff than I. I havefpund out that my talent isn't piano. LOL my fingers can't stretch enough to play all 4 keys at a time. I have to use both hands and I lose my place. :-)

I have an idea. What do y'all think?

What if we had our national members sing a version of this in their own language??

Wouldn't that be cool?!

I humbly submit:
Me encanta LibriVox
To the tune of "I Love the Mountains"

Me encanta grabar
Amo el micrófono
Me gusta escuchar
Cuando a mi casa voy
Amo los foros
Cuando no hay más que hacer
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Amo los dramas
Y la poesía
Y no dormirme
Hasta las tres y diez
Grabar capítulos
Cuando no hay más que hacer
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Me encanta reclutar
Vamos creciendo bien
Me encanta presumir
Allá en el internet
Me encanta el podcast
Cuando no hay más que hacer
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Y esos acentos
Y los idiomas
Grabando libros
De todo el mundo
Y en once años
Habrán más libros
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah,
Bum di a dah, Bum di a dah!

Now, ladies and gentlemen, we are ready to rock! I now have a twelve track accompaniment which I can tailor to the individual voices. The idea is to take individual phrases from your recordings and blend together to make the whole thing, so I want as many voices as possible - penny whistles, harmonicas, kazoos etc welcome too.

If you can't sing, don't worry at all - it can all be spoken or sung as you please. The more variety, the better! The vital thing is to keep the rhythm as precise as possible. Ladies with the lovely soprano voices - you may prefer to sing an octave higher. Gentlemen - let's hear some really growly bass!

There are two versions of the tune, which I can merge to make a bit of vocal harmony. Feel free to record one or both, as much as or as little as you want. We particularly need lots of boom de yadas!

I can upload a zip file containing:

1. PDFs of the two melody versions - music and lyrics. (Not including the Spanish version, but feel free to record in Spanish from Gypsygirl's post in this thread).
2. Midis of the two melodies.

The idea of the midis is that you can sing along to stay in time, but try to keep them quiet so that the recording is just your voice.

If anyone wants to write any more verses, please post the lyrics here.

Would it be possible to treat this as a proper project from Launch Pad, to attract as many folk as possible to contribute to the song?
