I reviewed your test sample, and while it sounds good there are some technical changes needed. LibriVox requires audio that is 128kbps constant bit rate MP3, 44.1kHz sample rate, mono, and between 86dB and 92dB, preferably 89-90. Your test audio is 192kbps. The volume is within range, but near the max at 91.9dB, which is -18.6dB RMS in Audition. You should shoot for -21dB RMS.

Thank you SJMarky...I'm new to this and I have seen decibel figures of (for example) max. -3db, an RMS of between -23db and -18db and a floor of -60db. Can you tell me how one can convert these numbers into the 86dB to 92dB range? Is there a page that would explain the difference?

Basically, all recording software uses the scale 0dB (maximum) to -100dB (silent), except LibriVox. I understand the history is that LV volunteers had trouble understanding that -18 is louder than -23, so it was simplified. The specs you cite are from ACX, which are actually quite close to LibriVox (although LV doesn't require the -3dB peaks). I use Reaper and the RMS scale myself.

These are approximate:

+86dB = -25dB RMS.
+89dB = -23dB RMS.
+92dB = -18dB RMS.

I normalize to -21dB RMS. The exact figure you use depends on your setup, whether you use any compression, etc. Most audio I review get the right volume at -23dB RMS. For your audio, -21dB seems to be the right level.
