The House of Moonlight, by August Derleth (1909 - 1971)

Volunteers outside the USA: August Derleth died in 1971. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
As a boy living in Sac Prairie, Wisconsin, with his grandfather Jasper, Steve goes to visit up-and-coming pianist Joel Merrihew and his mother. But what he finds in Joel is a troubled and broken man, struggling with an inner turmoil whose soul is as restless and conflicted as the dense and complex Symphony in D Minor by Franck of which Joel is so fixated. IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

And you are off to an excellent start with two PL OKs.

I think you have the perfect reading style for books written in the first person. :)

Yea, I've been curious about August Derleth's Sac Prairie stories for quite a while, having only been familiar with his horror stuff from Weird Tales and H. P. Lovecraft before. I know these are supposed to be very different in tone and more based in human drama and slice-of-life.

Well done, the final four chapters are all PL OK.

This is the first August Derleth story I have ever read. (I am not real big on horror.) I found this to be a strange story. Wasn't surprised with the ending though. I would have liked to know what happened to Peter though.

Congratulations on the completion of another work.
