Oh nooooo! The curse of the weird tales!!!
You should be able to find the continuation at the top of this page:
https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV06N04192510/page/n142/mode/1up
And then on the left-hand side of this page:
https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV06N04192510/page/n143/mode/1up
(and then down at the very bottom there's a blurb for the next story)
When I clicked on the Jules de Grandin link in the Internet Archive metadata down below, I got a TON of hits! He is in so many stories! I had no idea, so I went to Wikipedia; he even has his own article there:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jules_de_Grandin
All new to me!

That's the peril of a magazine source instead of a book, ha ha.
So, more drama ahead! But I already spoiled the surprise for you

Fixed the errors in Parts 1 & 2 and added the missing dialogue to Part 2 beginning @ 24:35:laurakgibbs wrote: ↑April 17th, 2024, 7:03 pmJust one little thing to fix up in Part 2:kirk202 wrote: ↑April 14th, 2024, 12:19 pm Sections 1 & 2 are ready to PL:

6:00 when the phone rang insistently (not: incessantly)
And........ there is actually still some more wrapping up that starts here:
https://archive.org/details/WeirdTalesV06N04192510/page/n142/mode/1up?view=theater
(that's the page where it goes to when it says "continued" down at the very bottom where you stopped)
Even with the wrapping-up, it's still not really clear to me just who the gorilla was... hmmmm. But there's just a little bit more; not enough for a Part 3, so it makes sense to tack it onto Part 2.
There are some wild personals and advertisements in the back ha ha ha. Go Into ELECTRICITY!

Thank you for straightening me out!
Checked out the Electric Ad, think I'll apply, it pays more than we're making here!
My allergy has been giving me problems the last few days making my voice gurgley and eyes irritated making it hard to record..LOL. I'll start back up when it clears up in a few days.

Perfect timing! I've finally finished the 2-week-whirlwind of guests and aftermath, and I'm going to get caught up at LV tonight. Yay!

Section 1 is PL OK and Section 2 sounds good with the full ending (even if it is STILL a mystery at the end ha ha)... I noticed one little phrase that dropped out to fix there in the new part you just recorded:
Section2
26:09 but don't know his name ("his name" missing)
And now I am going to go listen to the new story!

Ahhhh, from gorilla to SNAKE. Eeeeeek! I haven't a clue how there could be such a snake in Rouen....... but we will find out soon enough, ha ha.kirk202 wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 9:27 am Section 3 is ready to PL: https://librivox.org/uploads/icequeen/weirdtalesjulesdegrandinvol1_03_quinn_128kb.mp3 @ 46:07
Section 3
0:14 The Rue des Batailles was justifying its name. From my table (that first sentence is missing)
2:19 as he answered with another grin (I heard grim?)
6:13 threatens to pauperize (not pamperize)
7:45 to the sale Boche (not Broche; Boche is derogatory term for German, sale Boche = dirty Kraut)
11:39 to look at Adrienne (not Adrina)
32:58 carved in hideous designs of dragons' and griffins' heads (part of the sentence is missing)
37:07 flour prints lead away (I heard: four prints)
38:59 kills his prey by crushing each bone (not: before)
41:20 roughened with centuries of exposure (not: ruffed)
42:04 I countered (not: encountered)
42:40 a slow impressiveness (not: low)
44:41 firmly to the earth (not: finely)

Oooooh, ALL GOOD. I love the idea that it was a nun who cursed the evil guy into becoming a snake. And the description of the sword fight was really cool; very cinematic. I could totally see it happening, ha ha. I think the story held your attention too because the reading was super; I didn't notice anything at all that needs fixing there, so you can roll right into the next story. I definitely liked this one better with all the weird backstory; I never really figured out what was going on with the mad scientist in the first story, but this nun's curse made total sense. Don't mess with the nuns of Rouen!!! Eeeeeeeek!

Yay to end-of-allergies! I'm just checking in to say that the past week has been bonkers for me, but I should be able to get caught up on Wednesday and Thursday. I'm so curious to hear the new story!!!
You can enjoy both!

Ooooh, this shipwrecked one is my favorite of the de Grandin stories so far; it kinds of reminds me of 20000 Leagues under the Sea!
And the reading sounds great; in that first long part (Section 5), I noticed just 2 little things:
11:49 for my flailing legs (not: flagging)
25:16 this interment which we make (not: intermittent)
I'm posting this now because I'm not sure if I can get to the conclusion tonight, but I hope I can. I don't imagine that this evil fellow will ever be as sympathetic as Captain Nemo (James Mason!!!!!!! whom I adored!!!!!), but I am very curious indeed!
