Wow, Bobby, that does not just work; it sounds fantastic. LibriVox is so lucky to have you as a reader; I hope this will be the first of many recordings!BobbyBreadshower wrote: ↑April 7th, 2024, 7:19 am Here is Section 7. Hopefully this works!

Everything is in great shape, with just one little sentence that fell out (see below). Inserting is about the easiest kind of editing there is, so if you can insert that missing sentence and then upload the file again, I'll do a spotcheck.
Also, let me know if you would be interested in recording any more of the stories here! Your voice is just perfect for these kinds of fast-moving stories. Thanks so much for doing this one!
Section 7: Paul Bunyan
3:20 But the trees aren't wasted, at that.
(this sentence fell out, so you can just insert it)

Those stories both sound sooooo good, Lisa! You did a great job shifting back and forth between the narration and dialogue -- and that's what I like about folktales and fairy tales; they usually have a nice balance of action and dialogue, and not so much description. That makes them really fun to listen to I think!
The stories themselves are in super shape; there are just some little edits needed at the beginning and end of each file: there's a section title to use (instead of just the story title) to use so that people will know where the story comes from, and then there needs to be 5 seconds of silence at the end of each file:
Section 8: Coyote
0:15 here's the section title from the magic window:
a Pueblo (Native American) story: "Coyote and Evening Star" retold by Ahlee James
9:01 there needs to be 5 seconds of silence at the end, after you say "end of section 8 read by Lisa"
Section 9: West Wind
0:16 same here with the section title:
a Dakota (Native American) story: "The Story of White Dawn" retold by Winona Blanche Allanson
4:58 the word "maiden" sort of fades out there at the end so you might want to re-record that last bit when you add on the 5 seconds of silence at the very end
And if you are interested in recording any other stories, just let me know! It would be great to have more of your voice here and, as you saw, the stories are nice and short, which makes it easy to jump in and record something.

I'll take another look at the open stories and let you know if there are any others I would like to volunteer for.

PERFECT: seamless edit! I'll go mark this PL OK in the window. Thank you so much for contributing! I think this may be the longest story in the collection, and you did such a fine job with it. Yay!BobbyBreadshower wrote: ↑April 7th, 2024, 9:52 am

Absolutely! MW updated. I wondered who would take the Aeneid story! It covers the early part of the Aeneid, with Aeneas and his father Anchises trying to figure out just where the gods want them to go (the gods being not entirely clear when giving directions ha ha). Here's the section title to read before you dive into the actual story:
from the ancient Roman Aeneid: "The Wanderings of Aeneas" retold by H. L. Havell
As epic-retellings go, I thought this was a good one! I hope you will enjoy it

Check these and see if they are better. I will look and see if there are other stories I would like to read. I do enjoy these stories, but some of the names trip me up, haha!

Fantastic! That is a really famous medieval legend, although it is not famous anymore. The emperor and the wise man have different names in different versions, but it's very cool that this one has Herod (?!?!) and Merlin!
About the stop and start:
section title is:
a Medieval European legend: "Herod and the Bubbles" retold by F.J.H. Darton
and then the story starts:
"There was an Emperor of Rome..." on p. 221
and it ends:
"wrought by the wisdom of Merlin." on p. 226
Enjoy the medieval weirdness!!!

PERFECT, Lisa! Those both sound great, with the section title there at the start and the 5 seconds of silence there at the end. I'll go mark these as PL OK in the magic window, and I've assigned section 4 to you also. Thank you so much for contributing another story!lcole5 wrote: ↑April 7th, 2024, 3:49 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/talesof1927_08_various_128kb.mp3

That sounds excellent, Lisa! I am so excited that this famous old story will come to life again now at LibriVox. Wonderful! I've marked that PL OK in the magic window.lcole5 wrote: ↑April 7th, 2024, 4:25 pm https://librivox.org/uploads/rapunzelina/talesof1927_04_various_128kb.mp3

If you are curious about the story and its connection to Merlin, there is an old article about it here:

I'm guessing lots of people are interested in Merlin... but have probably never heard this story of the supernatural bubbles. Thanks again for doing this one; it's a weird story to listen to before going to bed, ha ha; maybe I will end up with weird dreams!
