The Cold Heart, by Wilhelm Hauff (1802 - 1827), translated by John Oxenford (1812 - 1877)

This project is now complete https://librivox.org/the-cold-heart-by-wilhelm-hauff/ All audio files can be found on our catalog page/:
Dissatisfied with his life of poverty, Peter Munk, a poor charcoal burner, summons an ancient spirit who rewards him with three wishes. His wealth is but short-lived and soon he faces ruin. To recover his riches, he makes a deal with a mysterious, evil force. In exchange for his heart, Peter receives again wealth and success, but is emotionally numb and without love and compassion. Will Peter find a way to avoid eternal damnation? (Summary by Antipode)

Target completion date: 2024-05-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Just FYI, that's a rather dodgy looking site for the source but the same story is here on project gutenberg, using the same John Oxenford translation (I think this is the original printing of it):

I'll check in the morning - it seems a candidate for a collection but it is past my bedtime. If someone wants to do a word count that would be nice.

Approximately 15,000 words, so too long for a collection. :)

Instructions for using the MW here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kVj409nG_E0XJ5UrrcL7EVx7Qyx-2UQ7dbw4mINi3XQ
I have changed your text link. Please use it . We need to use a trusted source so we are confident there are not changes made which would attract a new copyright so please use it.

Oops, awkward... I didn't find this text on Gutenberg. I have started recording already, using the source text I originally posted. I will now look that there are no changes against your link. If so I'll have to revise the proposed finish date and re-record those sections.

It's my first solo, so this is me learning...

Thanks for your guidance

Hello again

Update: the text is identical with one very small difference (somehow a half sentence was cut out of the text I used) I'll re-record that part soon and will start uploading finished sections.

Sounds good - non of us want the team's work put into a project removed if Archive receives a copyright challenge.
I'll move this back to the launch pad :D

You will need to write your own summary before it is catalogued - and you can set up the MW . It does help to have that done - it will help us to complete the team with a proof listener and letting me know how you are planning to divide it up means I can check and make sure it will all work in the catalogue.

Thanks, I saw the link to set-up the MW. Will get my head around it presto. As for the summary, I've posted one already albeit a short one. Does it need to be in my own words or does it need to be longer?

Your own words - and not from the source you give. We have a policy about AI that while there are doubts about the way it is generated we will not use it.
Personally I think saying something in your own words about your project is a better "advertisement" :D

Okay, I've changed the summary.

I've attempted to complete the MW for the first section. Is it important to put something into the notes for the PL or can I leave it blank?

that's all you need - I'll fix the file name later - you need to put 01, 02 etc to make the files work in all the software even if there are less than 10 number files- (and if you have over 99 files you need to have 3 digits).
