The Silver Age, by Thomas Heywood (c. 1570 - 1641)
Thomas Heywood wrote a quartet of plays: The Golden Age, The Silver Age, The Brazen Age, and The Iron Age. In the current play, The Silver Age, we get the story of "The Love of Jupiter to Alcmena: The Birth of Hercules, and The Rape of Proserpine. Concluding with the Arraignment of the Moone." The second and third acts of this play resemble versions of the story of Amphitryon as told by Plautus some 1800 years earlier. (Summary by ToddHW)
Jennlea is our DPL!

I have been collecting versions of the play Amphitryon for a class I plan to run. We have versions by Plautus and Moliere in our catalog already. The Silver Age starts both earlier in time and goes on beyond the Plautus or Moliere versions of the story. (Oh, and yes, I'll go back and do the Golden Age later.)

This edition of the play is new enough that we don't have those pesky F's for S's in the script. Hooray!

If you pick a character that is only in one act, feel free to pick another so long as they are in different acts.

Gender neutral, of course.

May I read Jupiter?
I fancy being the Head Honcho!

I think Jupiter also has lines in act 5 entering on page 172.

I think this may set a record for the most roles in an LV play.

Thank you both.

One of the differences with this play versus Plautus or Moliere is that Juno finds out about the Jupiter-Alcmena affair.

Thanks, Todd

Well, I think I'll put in for the stage directions. Seems to be mostly entrances and exits, with some scene and action description -- and all of the names, names, names. And would you want Actus and Scenae as in the script or Act and Scene?

Thank you both.

Larry: let's give the project some class and use Actus and Scenae as in the script rather than Act and Scene.
