Alfred Edward Housman was an English classical scholar and poet. He is now acknowledged as one of the foremost classicists of his age and has been ranked as one of the greatest scholars of any time. In 1922 his Last Poems added to his reputation, which was further enhanced by the large number of song settings drawn from this collection.
(Summary by Wikipedia)
The author's name is pronounced /ˈhaʊsmən/

Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave ½ to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
Yonder see the morning blink by A. E. Housman, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
Yonder see the morning blink:
The sun is up, and up must I,
To wash and dress and eat and drink
And look at things and talk and think
And work, and God knows why.

Oh often have I washed and dressed
And what's to show for all my pain?
Let me lie abed and rest:
Ten thousand times I've done my best
And all's to do again.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.
