The Crisis: A Record of the Darker Races, Vol. I, No. 3, by W. E. B. Du Bois (1868 - 1963)

Volunteers outside the USA: W. E. B. Du Bois died in 1963. This person's work may still be protected by copyright in countries where copyright duration is determined by the author's death date. In Europe this is 70 years; in Canada it is 70 years for authors who died after 1971; and in Australia it is 70 years for authors who died after 1955.
The Crisis is the official publication of the NAACP first published in 1910 with W. E. B. Du Bois, one of the founders, as editor. He exercised almost total control of the content and opinions of the publication until he resigned in 1934. Du Bois was one of the most ardent advocates for total civil rights for all racial minorities and was a prolific author for the cause.
From Du Bois’ editorial: “The object of this publication is to set forth those facts and arguments which show the danger of race prejudice, particularly as manifested to-day toward colored people. It takes its name from the fact that the editors believe that this is a critical time in the history of the advancement of men.” This issue has editorials, opinions, and articles such as "An Appeal to Europe," Employment of Colored Women in Chicago," and special articles, "The Teacher," by Leslie Pinckney Hill, and, "Social Control" by Jane Addams.

Hi Larry,

Just of interest, I am currently soloing DuBois' Dark Princess, a novel he wrote to explore race issues. I'm a little over halfway through. It's 1928, first PD this year, and I had picked it out awhile ago. I hope I'm doing it justice and that it gets some play.
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Cheers, VERLA

Thank you, Lynnet!

MW is populated and we are ready for readers.
Most of these are really short sections, so maybe go to short works?

I have posted Sections 1, 13, 17, 18, and 19 Ready for PL.

Notes: I have added a few extras to section 1, including two advertisements. I thought they would be of interest to readers as an insight into the culture of that time.

I've added several more sections to give a place for these short articles to stand on their own at the end. I will fill in Section 20 later which will be more of the ads at the end of the book, again to reflect the culture in which this magazine was written and published.

Section 1 is PL OK. Noticed you didn't read the list of all the committee members. It was read in earlier issues.

Sections 13, 17, and 18 are PL OK.

Section 19 just needs 1 change. I wouldn't mark it except that it is the title of the section.

0:27 should be "race" not "racial" in "race prejudice in the orient"

This last section was really interesting. Such a wise man. It was an impressive piece.

Thanks,

M

That would be great!

I see you haven't received your final OK on your test recording, but I'll put you in for this. I just need to know how you would like to be listed in the LibriVox catalog. This can be your real name, pseudonym, or any nickname/handle you wish. This is how you will be credited for all of your LV work.
