Another Spring by Christina Rossetti (1830 - 1894)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/another-spring-by-christina-rossetti/
Academics studying Christina Rossetti's work in the 1970s saw beyond the lyrical sweetness to her mastery of prosody and versification. Feminists held her as a symbol of constrained female genius and a leader among 19th-century poets.
(Summary by Wikipedia)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.
Project Code: RnNVmU7s

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave ½ to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
Another Spring by Christina Rossetti, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
If I might see another Spring
I'd not plant summer flowers and wait:
I'd have my crocuses at once,
My leafless pink mezereons,
My chill-veined snowdrops, choicer yet
My white or azure violet,
Leaf-nested primrose; anything
To blow at once not late.

If I might see another Spring
I'd listen to the daylight birds
That build their nests and pair and sing,
Nor wait for mateless nightingale;
I'd listen to the lusty herds,
The ewes with lambs as white as snow,
I'd find out music in the hail
And all the winds that blow.

If I might see another Spring--
O stinging comment on my past
That all my past results in "if"--
If I might see another Spring
I'd laugh to-day, to-day is brief;
I would not wait for anything:
I'd use to-day that cannot last,
Be glad to-day and sing.
At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Thank you David,

I would like to just be Barry Mister in the LV catalog.

Can I provide a URL at a later time? I'm not certain where I want to host personal content yet.

I was considering soundcloud. Any recommendations? Perhaps somewhere other volunteers might use?

Thanks for the reply Barry, your LibriVox catalog page has been updated. I cannot recommend a hosting site, from what I've seen, there is a wide variety of sites used by our readers that do have their own web pages.

I gave it a shot! I wasn't sure around the line "azure violet, Leaf-nested primrose" and I think it shows a bit :?
