Hi! I plan to DPL this one myself, as a handful of my current DPLs are close to wrapping up.

Currently planning on 85 sections, which I almost have finished to load into a MW whenever ready, but I do have a question. In looking in the TOC for the book, I noticed that there is an appendix for 2 sections. One is the continuation of a previous section about Zachary Taylor, and the next section after that is a quick blurb about Millard Fillmore. I'm unclear why the author broke out those two sections, as they flow with all the other presidential sections, which all fall before the section on British America. Could I note to read both section of Zachary Taylor as one section (in line with where the first section falls) and then move Millard Fillmore to be read right after Zachary Taylor? Or, do they have to remain in the same order as written in the book?
Cheers,
Claire

I can set this up for you.

You should keep the same order the author has put the chapters in,however illogical it appears. It is possible to break up chapters that are too long, or combine chapters that are too short... but should be kept in the same order.

Edit: and ready to go.
The file name is still rather long...long file names invite errors, especially in group projects. How about historyofnsamerica ?

Awesome thank you! I figured we had to keep them in order, but didn't hurt to ask. Appreciate the clarification!

Ahhh, the file name was even longer before. Your suggestion is great!

Edit - I think I changed the file name correctly on the first post. And, how do we know if an author is in the catalog or not? I've seen others mention when they have authors that need to be added, but I'm not sure what to check...

Claire

He wasn’t but I added him 8-) It shows for the MC when setting up a project. You can search in the catalog (look at the “hamburger” under where it says “LibriVox forum” at the top of the page. ) If the author isn’t listed, your MC would be very happy if you do a quick Wikipedia search to see if you can find details. Sometimes even that fails, though :?

Learning something new everyday! Thank you so much! My goal is to get the MW set up this evening, but we'll see how much non-LV pesky stuff gets in the way.

You do know that LV takes priority over most things, including laundry, cleaning, cooking home cooked meals, husbands (or possibly boyfriends, but I don’t have one, so I’m guessing here), shopping etc.?

Ha, I completely agree! Would you mind adding work into your list, and then notarize a copy so I can send over to my boss? Perhaps it'll help convince her that LV is good for expanding my recording skills for my work things!

I've just recorded my section and will submit it soon. Quite interesting! One question, the text proper of this section (and presumably all the others) is preceded by short list of contents-type fragment. Do you want me to keep it in?
Situation, Extent, &c.—Inhabitants—Political Divisions.—I. British West Indies: Jamaica—Trinidad—Barbadoes—Bahamas—St. Christopher—Bermudas or Sommers' Islands—St. Vincent.—II. Spanish West Indies: Cuba—Porto Rico.—III. French West Indies: Martinique—Guadaloupe.—IV. Dutch West Indies.—V. Danish West Indies.—VI. Hayti.

Thanks for checking, but no, you don't need to read the short list at the beginning of the chapter. It's basically a quick summary of everything you're reading within the chapter, so I don't think it's necessary.
Cheers,
Claire

Here it is
https://librivox.org/uploads/lynnet/historyofnsamerica_81_goodrich_128kb.mp3 duration 24:33

I don't know if you'd be interested in some trivia but here they are:
- I first learned of the Danish West Indies when I came across a piece of news that the Danish had sent a rescue team and pledged money to help what is today U.S Virgin Islands in the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria https://www.fema.gov/press-release/20230502/team-denmark-supports-hurricane-recovery-efforts-us-virgin-islands
- while the part about Haiti is too short to include the info, the country does have a group of population with the Polish roots dating back to the slave revolution mentioned in the text; among the soldiers Napoleon sent was the so-called "Polish Legion" but the soldiers, coming from a country that itself had just lost its independence, couldn't find it in them to fight the freedom fighters; as a result many of them defected and when the hunt for the remaining French began, the Poles were explicitly granted immunity by the Haitian commander who reportedly called them "white negroes of Europe"; until today there are areas with population descending from those legionnaires; recently programmes were started in which children of those descendants have a chance to learn the language and culture of their ancestors! As a Pole I find it fascinating.
- those British Empire types did stir the pot quite hard making it so that you find really unusual things all over the former colonies; among them large groups of Indian descendants in some countries where the locals wouldn't work for the new masters and so the indentured servants fom India were sent; among those places are Trinidad (as mentioned in the text), Suriname, Mauritius or Fiji
