Three Hills, by Everard Owen

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/three-hills-by-everard-owen/

In this short collection of poetry published in 1916, the Reverend Everard Owen explores the sacrifices of the First World War from an English perspective. (Summary by Newgatenovelist)
Source text (please read only from this text!): https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=wu.89099766255&view=1up&seq=7

Target completion date:

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Some good soul had already recorded one of this author's poems, so he's already in the catalogue. However, if findagrave dates are acceptable as a source his dates could be updated to 1860-1949.

Hathi has been playing up today for me, but if the problem persists there's a copy on google books to link to.

Poems 1-6 are ready for PL. Short and sweet for you, I hope. The sound check is okay and the catalogue gets more war poetry.

Well done, Erin! These are fine poems - starkly realistic with a strong allegorical component.

You have a knack for preserving the poet's intent, albeit melancholy at times, while ensuring the work is palatable and retains the intended faint glimmer of hope.

In Section 6, I should mention that I'm hearing a small distracting noise at 0:04 over the phrase "read for LibriVox dot org." Again, a minor distraction so I'll leave it to your discretion as to what action you wish to take. Meanwhile, I'll temporarily mark Section 6 appropriately and the remainder PL OK.

Thank you for a fine addition to our catalogue.

Bruce.

Thank you for that, Bruce. Section 6 is ready for spot PL with a new intro. I do appreciate you listening with headphones when I suspect that the majority of listeners will probably play it through car speakers or other less finely tuned equipment.
