Poems, by Wilfred Owen (1893 - 1918)

The English poet Wilfred Owen was killed on 4th November 1918 just seven days before the Armistice which ended the First World War. This book, published in 1920 and edited by his friend Siegfried Sassoon, contains his best known poems.

The poems were not well received initially because they did not fit with the mood of triumphalism after the war. But they have latterly come to be considered one of the most significant collections of war poetry of the 20th century both for their alternative view of war ("the pity of war") and for their technical innovation.

Target completion date: 2024-07-01

Prooflistening level: Special - Standard PL, plus checking all tech specs including file names, volume, background noise, and plosives. Follow along with text and check to make sure any deviations from text don't affect rhyme, meter, or meaning.
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

There is a group recording of these poems in the catalogue but I would like to add my own version as these poems have a special significance to me.

I will need the good offices of a DPLand MC :help:

You are very welcome as DPL
I will take my time over this project, perhaps 2 or 3 poems per week.

That's fine with me. These will be worth all the effort you make with them.
