The Lonely House, by Marie Belloc Lowndes (1868 - 1947)
A mystery in the 'old fashioned' romantic genre, introducing characters that inspired another famous writer of detective mystery fiction.
The heroine of the tale is Lilly Fairfield, a young and naïve, orphaned heiress. Lilly is to stay with her Countess Aunt in Monte Carlo for a few months, she was acquainted with her Aunt 'Cosy' as she had lived with her in England when Lilly was a young girl. The countess resides now with her husband at the uncannily named 'La Solitude', a rather down at heal, secluded and mysterious estate. Traveling by train she becomes acquainted with a middle aged French man and his traveling companion, a young Captain of the London Scottish regiment. The family seems to have fallen on hard times and their behaviour seems odd, and Lilly must call upon the help of her traveling friends when a body is found in the grounds of the estate. A mystery thus begins to unfold. (Summary by Andy Sames)

Hoorah! Here we go again. Hi Christine. Please find Chapter 1 of The Lonely House ready for PL.
I like this one, there are some very subtle little clues that you can find and say "Oh, of course, now I see the significance of that!"
I invested in some new studio equipment a couple of weeks ago, but will carry on with my 'old' rig for this novel; it will take time to master the new gear.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi Christine.
Please find ready for PL Chapter 2 of The Lonely House. I always think it strange when authors don't give chapters titles.
Cheers,
Andy

Hi again Christine. Chapter 3 of The Lonely House is now ready for PL. The chapters seem to be quite short, so it may not take very long to complete this novel.

Hi Christine, please find ready for PL Chapter 5 of TLH. I get the feeling this would have made a good matinee film. Do such things still exist? :D

Hi Andy, Just one small edit for Chapter 5: lengthen ending silence to 5 seconds.
Matinees do still exist here. Second runs for films and always in the middle of the weekday. 8-)
