The recording sounds great. I'm new so I don't know if you have the time specs correct or not. .75 sec of silence to start and 5 sec of silence to end. I just learned myself. Great Job. Keep it up.

Welcome to Librivox, Megan!

Your voice is animated and clear and your test meets all but one of the Librivox standards. The volume is just a touch too high at 92.5 dB. The ideal range is between 86 and 92 dB, with 89-90 dB being the ideal.

You can fix this by selecting the entire track in Audacity and applying Effect > Loudness Normalization, set to -19LUFS and "Perceived Loudness." Once you click "Apply," your recording volume should be close to the ideal spot. You can always check it yourself by downloading and using the free standalone tool Checker before you upload. Just drag your file into the top area of this interface. Members use this to check 1-minute tests and their own files. Look under the Information tab to see your detailed results.

If you want it to also show your Background Noise, select Validation > Choose Validation Methods, and tick the box for Background Noise. You only need to do this once.

The Checker reviews the last 5 seconds of silence in a recording to assess background noise (all Librivox recordings are required to have 5 seconds of silence at the end so they work properly in all media players).

Please apply Loudness Normalization, reupload your file, and post the link in a response to this post. I'll come back and check it for you.

Thanks,
Winnifred

Thanks Megan. Your test is now good, and you're ready to start recording!

I suggest heading over to the "Readers Wanted: Short Works (Poetry & Prose)" forum to find your first recording. There are lots of short options there in all genres. Let the book coordinator of your first reading know if you want a different name than Megan99 in the Librivox catalogue.

If you have questions along the way, the "Need Help? Got Advice?” forum is a useful place to get answers.

Happy reading!
Winnifred
