How To Paint Permanent Pictures, by Maximilian Toch (1864 - 1946)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found in our catalog:
https://librivox.org/how-to-paint-permanent-pictures-by-maximilian-toch/

How To Paint Permanent Pictures" by Maximilian Toch delves into the intricate art of creating lasting images through painting. Toch, a passionate expert in the field, explains the techniques and materials essential for achieving long lasting artwork. He explores the chemistry behind pigments, binders, and varnishes, offering insights into their properties and interactions. Through meticulous detail and practical advice, Toch guides aspiring artists and professionals alike in navigating the complexities of preserving their creations for posterity. By understanding the science behind pigmentation and surface treatment, painters can ensure the longevity and durability of their works. Toch's treatise not only serves as a valuable resource for artists but also underscores the intersection of art and science. "How You Paint Permanent Pictures" finds the beauty inherent in the science of painting, his gamut of colors, from Alizarin Green to Zinnober Red, burst out of the page and make this short 12000 word work, a kaleidoscope through which to view and understand paint selection. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hello Bryn, I'll be glad to join as your MC! I'll be back shortly with your Magic Window.

Update: your Magic Window is in place, with the first couple of section titles filled in. Since some of the chapters in this book are quite short, you might consider combining two or three in each file... but that is entirely up to your discretion.

If you don't have anyone already lined up as Dedicated Proof Listener, we can add a tilde (~) to the beginning of the thread title to let folks know you're looking.

If you have any other questions, please do let me know! :D
I'll be out for a bit on this last weekend of April, but still checking in as I get the chance. I will try to follow up on Monday, with anything I can't do on the go.

Thanks so much for this redrun. I cracked on with the recording before launching the project so I have half of it done already. Although I will, most definitely take your good advice about combining sections in the future.
And so, I'm ready for my close up! I don't have anyone lined up to proof listen, so a tilde to tempt folk in would be very much appreciated.
Thanks again for taking this on.
All the best

Alright, tilde is added! If we haven'tcaught someone by the time a few chapters are uploaded and in the Magic Window, you or I can also advertise in the Listeners Wanted forum (instructions are there). :)

Thank you Laura, and welcome aboard! Looks like the first few are loaded.

And since we're moving right along, I'll move the thread over to Going Solo! :D

Hey Laura, how lovely to see you again! This one is much shorter than Charles Dickens' speeches but it turns out it's full of beautiful names for colors.
I have about half of it recorded already and I'm uploading as I finish the mastering. They're more like little musings than chapters. I hope you enjoy it.

Thanks so much for adding me, redrun!

It's nice to be working with you again, Bryn! I've never heard of madder lake before so my curiosity sent me looking to find out exactly what color it is.

Sections 0-4 are PL OK. I'll be back tomorrow for 5 and 6, and anything else you might post between now then.

These may be little musings but they have sent me down a rabbit hole of learning, which is always exciting.

Hi Laura,
The second book I did was copied by a YouTube channel that specialises in audiobooks to send you to sleep. I wasn't sure whether to be flattered or insulted, but an audience is an audience so I went with flattered.
I thought this might be ideal for that genre, but you're absolutely right, it is oddly fascinating.
Here's the next lot, so fresh you can smell the turpentine!
All the best

I would most definitely take it as a compliment. However, it would work opposite for me as I would be taking notes on all the things I wanted to look up and learn more about.

Sections 7-11 are all PL OK
Just a heads-up that the IDtag for section 9 is titled 'Preface' rather than 'Permanent Foundations for Painting'

I'm looking forward to more of these little musings.

Ah, and here's where I should note: metadata tags are automatically added at cataloging time, so there's no need to put them in as you're exporting the chapters!
Doesn't hurt anything if you do, but I don't want to have you wasting your time on it.

I'm also enjoying the musings. Whoever made the expression "like watching paint dry" was clearly not a paint chemist.

Thanks Redrun, that's useful to know, it's a minor nuisance putting them in so very happy to let it go. Bit late for my next upload but the later ones will be meta free!

Now then Laura,
Bit behind schedule, I've had a cold the last few days and been maintaining a laser like focus on feeling sorry for myself but I'm back now and the glow from my nose is dimming by the hour.
Here's the next bunch of musings. The rest should be along shortly.
All the best
Bryn

Having just gotten over a cold myself, I can totally sympathize. I'm glad you're feeling better!

Sections 12, and 14-16 are PL OK
In section 13 there's a longish pause starting ~3:02 that could be shortened.
