This is my first real recording - so please comment if recording or protocol not up to scratch.
Hi Juliana
Thank you for your recording
The text is correct and clearly read

Just 2 minor corrections needed:
- at the beginning please say "The Battle for the Mississippi by Herman Melville, read for Librivox.org by Juliana (April 1862)" rather the introduction you have used.
- please leave 5 seconds of silence at the end (this is a requirement for all Librivox recordings)

Then upload again with the same Filename.
Very good for a first recording
Sorry! Do I need to re-record the poem? Or just edit?
Thanks,
Juliana

I hope Alan won't mind my jumping in to answer this.
You edit just the parts that need to be corrected.
The reason is that Alan, as the dedicated proof listener (DPL) has already invested time into listening critically to your recording.
If you re-do the whole thing, he would have to listen to it all again, which is unnecessary and a waste of his time.

As you do longer pieces, you will end up with a number of flaws that need to be fixed, regardless of how many times you recorded it.
So, it really doesn't work to attempt for perfection on a reading. Just accept that there will be flaws that need to be fixed, and learn
how to edit these effectively.

If you don't know how to do this, my videos (link below) describe this process.

Adrian Stephens

Hi Juliana
As Adrian has explained, you do not need to record the whole poem again, just make a recording of the correct introduction and edit it into your original recording in place of the introduction you had before. Then export the whole file again with the same filename as an mp3 and upload it again.
If you have any further queries, please ask

Hi Adrian,
Thanks so much for your advice and instructions.
Juliana
You're very welcome, Juliana.
But I do want to respectfully correct you, or at least correct an impression.
None of us are going to give you instructions. Instead, we give you information that
you can use to create an acceptable (i.e. meeting Librivox's standards) recording.

It's a subtle thing, but we're all volunteers, and nobody tells anybody else what to do!

Regards,
Adrian

Hi Juliana
The introduction is now correct so this can be marked PL OK|!
Congratulations on your first completed recording.

Note: you did get the filename wrong this time, which is odd as you got it right first time, but I have corrected that.
