The Second Epistle of Paul to the Corinthians, Analytically Expounded, by David Dickson (1583 - 1663), translated by William Rechford

This project is complete! All files can be found on the catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-second-epistle-of-paul-to-the-corinthians-analytically-expounded-by-david-dickson/
Dickson is a writer after our own heart. For preachers he is a great ally. There is nothing brilliant or profound; but everything is clear and well arranged, and the unction runs down like the oil from Aaron’s head. In this volume the observations are brief. (Summary by Charles Spurgeon)

If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

This is set up.

I see he originally published this in Latin, in something like 1647. Then this was published 12 years later in English?

Well there you go sending me down bibliographical rabbit trails!

I can't find dates for William Retchford, despite my best efforts. He was a non-conformist minister of St Peter, St Albans and appears to be known these days as writing good Anglo-Saxon.

Ha! Such an innocent question, too. :)

So did Retchford translate this from Latin to English? If so, I guess we should credit him as translator. :hmm:

Greetings -

Sections 1 and 2 are definitely PL OK.

I appreciate your style of reading and Dickson's style of Arguments and Reasons.

One of the reasons I enjoy LibriVox is the diversity of works you can expose yourself to, i.e. PLing a commentary on Corinthians while also PLing a Puss In Boots adventure.

Section 9
Chapter 9
(08:24)

While I'm not always convinced by his answers, I think Dickson asks the right questions by using the format he does for analysis.

Greetings -

Some notes on Section 2:

TIME: 00:22 TEXT: "In the first he proceeds in his Apology for his constant good will towards the Corinthians, to Verse 14." COMMENT: This sentence is repeated.

TIME: 05:48 TEXT: "Verse 12. Furthermore," COMMENT: Reading has "therefore" instead of "furthermore".

Otherwise, definitely PL OK.
