Weird Tales Presents: Dark Stories of Stark, Unreasoning Terror, by Robert E. Howard (1906 - 1936)

This project is now in the catalogue. All audio files can be found on our catalogue page:
https://librivox.org/weird-tales-presents-dark-stories-of-stark-unreasoning-terror-by-robert-e-howard/

Grandmaster of weird fiction Robert E. Howard is perhaps most well-known as the forefather of dark fantasy via creations like Conan the Barbarian and Solomon Kane. While not as well-known but no less strange and mesmerizing are his tales of agonizing horror found in Weird Tales Magazine, many of which take places in the grim and stark swamp lands and forests of the American South, showing us terrifying visions of the ghastly and grisly that may lurk, not in faraway lands of magic and mystery, but just around the corner. Join Mr. Howard on a journey through what may be his most heart-stopping, pulse-pounding stories of horror in this thrilling collection ripped from the pages of Weird Tales! (Summary by Ben Tucker)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Yea, it's a whole big list of them from different publications. I was going to add each text link to the relevant story in the metadata similar to how the Short Sci-fi Collection works.

I'll set it up, back soon. Anne
You probably only need to add the text link to the metadata as the author is the same (just in case you hadn't realised)

All yours , have fun :D

We'll stay here so others in other time zones get a chance to PL but having some files available does help I find (if we didn't get any offers I'd do it but I like to give others a chance)

I can't PL this time, but I just wanted to say I think the title is hilarious.
Waiting for a clever signature line to occur to me.

Section 1 needs one correction: At 7:00, there’s a paragraph missing. After “…and then lay still,” I hear “I opened my mouth to challenge…” but the following paragraph should come before that: “I strained my eyes into the darkness, and made out a vague shape a few yards away in the trail. It was erect and tall as a man; it made no sound.”

Cheers,
Winnifred

Sections 2 through 4 are PL OK.

Stark, unreasoning terror indeed! So over the top. But you do it full justice.

Cheers,
Winnifred

Fixed! 5 - 7 are up!

Also I'm pretty sure most of the stories aren't quite as gruesome as that first one. I just wanted to start the collection out with a bang. :D

Well, mission accomplished! (I'm relieved to hear they're not all that gruesome; far more effective when that element's not overused.) Section 1 is spot PL OK.

Winnifred
