Oh, this book is just a non-stop delight! And your animal sounds were brilliant: the bleating! the cries of the owls! And I guess the screech-owl is now my favorite character ha ha; what a personality! I'll go mark both sections PL OK... and I am so curious to see/hear what comes next!

I was talking with a friend today who is going to be teaching a course on "beast-literature" this summer (he's a grad student doing animal studies in the Comparative Literature department at UC Davis in California), and I told him about your project! It will be so great for his students to have a beautiful audiobook that they can listen to.

Oh deer!!! And two more for PL thanks Laura...
I couldn't understand the "Shrakak"magpie sound, then I checked our faithful google and found that the EurAsian magpie in the story does have a harsh call, whereas the AUstralian magpie I'm used to hearing has the most beautiful mellow song; now it makes sense :) cheers, Anne

Wow, this book really is brilliant. The chapter with the conversation between the leaves caught me completely by surprise; how beautiful!

And all your bird calls and bird voices were wonderful, the crow, the jay, all of them. The magpie shriek sounded great, and my favorite sound was the call of the falcons.

Also, I just noticed that this book was translated by Whittaker Chambers!!! It's an unusual name, but just to make sure, I checked at Wikipedia -- and it really is THE Whittaker Chambers; the article even mentions his Bambi translation. So I can file that away in my "learn something new every day" file for today. Ha!

He's very famous/notorious here in America, although perhaps not so famous outside the U.S....?

Meanwhile, I've marked these PL OK and am eagerly awaiting what will happen now in winter!

Hi Laura, two more for PL thank you..I'm afraid this is where the story takes on a much darker tone :( Certainly not a book for young children.

Rapunzalina, Laura has pointed out the well-known translator's name, something I completely missed in the Project Generator. Do I add this to the summary or is this an admin adjustment? I think that someone who comes up with the translated phrase "a whole flurry of fluttering pheasants" certainly deserves credit!
cheers, Anne

The translator is mentioned in the very first intro, the long one, and then again at the end of book outro. Did you not include him in your first intro?

(The translator's name will also be shown on the catalogue page - no need to include him in the summary, unless you specifically want to say something about the translation/translator)

Yes, I think it best so that the translator gets credited, too, for the listener as they begin to listen.
And then again when they finish listening, in case they forgot :P

Oh, I literally just now saw these.......... after the completely devastating last sentence of Chapter 10, for which I was not ready, not ready at all! And Gobo, and Mr. and Mrs. Hare. And all the rest! So sad!!! And not just what He did in the forest, but also the poor squirrel bit by the ferret. So, yes, I am glad for lighter things to come; I will listen to the new ones tomorrow evening and spot check Section 0 also.

And all is good for Chapters 9 and 10 both, with such good voices all around; I'll go mark these PL OK now. I especially liked the crow's voice, and I remain amazed at how you can do different voices for the different deer, so when they were having their long conversation about Him, I could follow who was speaking just from the way you did the different deer voices. Absolutely wonderful! I am looking forward to another evening with Bambi tomorrow!

Spotcheck good, and all the new chapters also good: you are making my job very easy. And you were right about this being so much more light-hearted; Bambi meeting Faline again, with them both now grown up, was so sweet, and I really like the new grown-up voice you have for Bambi. And the woodpecker was wonderful; what a great character. And even the old stag is surprisingly sympathetic; surely he and Bambi will manage to talk to each other next time. With each new chapter, I am more and more impressed by this book! I never read it as a child, although I read so many animal books... it is very exciting to think about all the listeners, young and not-so-young, who will get to enjoy your recording!
