The Prophet, by D. H. Lawrence (1885 - 1930)

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-prophet-by-d-h-lawrence/
LibriVox volunteers bring you -- recordings of The Prophet by D.H. Lawrence.
This was the Weekly Poetry project for January 21, 2024.
------
(Summary by TriciaG)
Each week a poem is chosen to be recorded by as many LibriVox volunteers as possible!
This week's poem can be found here.

New to recording? Please see our Newbie Guide to Recording for further instructions. A quick guide to our required technical settings can be found here. When you post your file, please tell the BC what name you would like to use in our catalog.

LibriVox recording settings: mono (1 channel), 44100 Hz sample rate, 128 kbps constant bit rate MP3. See the Tech Specs

Begin your reading with the abbreviated LibriVox disclaimer:
Leave 0.5 to 1 second of silence at the beginning.
The Prophet by D. H. Lawrence, read for librivox.org by [your name].
[Add, if you wish, date, and/or your location.]
Then read the poem:
AH, my darling, when over the purple horizon shall
loom
The shrouded mother of a new idea, men hide their
faces,
Cry out and fend her off, as she seeks her procreant
groom,
Wounding themselves against her, denying her
fecund embraces.
fecund (FEE-kuhnd):
(1) producing or capable of producing offspring, fruit, vegetation, etc., in abundance; prolific; fruitful: fecund parents; fecund farmland.
(2) very productive or creative intellectually: the fecund years of the Italian Renaissance.

At the end of your reading, leave a space and then say:
End of poem. This recording is in the public domain.
Leave 5 seconds of silence at the end.

Thanks! Just a couple small edits at the beginning and end:

1.5 seconds of silence at start; please cut this down to between 1/2 and 1 second.

2-3 seconds of silence at the end; this needs to be a total of 5 seconds, so it needs about 2.5 seconds more.

Please use the same file name when uploading the new file. :)
