Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship Volume 1, by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749 - 1832), translated by Thomas Carlyle (1795 - 1881)
The novel is in eight books. This celebrated novel is described as the classic example of a "bildungsroman", a journey through life and circumstances in which the protagonist develops character and insight to enable him to make the best of his options for living in the world. Volume 1 introduces the hero's conflict between his romantic passions and impulses and the expectations of his father that he would settle into a commercial career. He is drawn towards the theatre for which he has considerable innate talent; but he has to set out on a pathway independently of his family, while retaining a tenuous connection with them. He meets many people and joins a theatrical troupe, encountering many adventures and very much broadening his experience of life, close interpersonal relationships, and understanding of his fellows. He also discovers Shakespeare and becomes intrigued with the play of Hamlet.

The edition being read is divided into two volumes. This is Volume 1. Volume 2 will be a separate recording. (Summary by Peter Tucker)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I am using a two-volume version of this long book just to break it up a bit.
Newgatenovelist (Erin) is kindly agreeable to PL.

Hello, I will MC this for you. Initial question, it is usual to include the introduction etc as Section 00 but I noticed you didn't ask for that in the first post. Can I set this up with Section 00 for your introduction etc. as appears in the book?
Best,
Christine

Thanks Christine
Yes, an oversight on my part.
Carlyle's introduction is definitely worth including so adding Section 00 would be great.
Thanks

The reading itself is fine for section 2, but in the intro I heard ‘Johann Wilhelm von Goethe’. I'm flagging it because it's a name and, if you use this method, you should be able to get one with 'Wolfgang' from an existing section.
